QLD Borders Would Be Closed Wednesday Night

When they say QLD borders are closed, what would happen ? How long ? What would happen to people moving between interstate?

Also, whoever enters after Wednesday needs to self quarantine for 14 days. What does that imply ? Is it just that one needs to go home and lock yourself?

  • shouldn't we wait for the official Qld govt statement on the matter? why speculate.
    from the Premier:
Queensland’s border closure will take effect at midnight on Wednesday. The Queensland Disaster Management Committee will meet tomorrow (Tuesday 24/3) to finalise details - including exemptions - and more detail will be released at that time.

There will be exceptions around border towns in SA, I assume similar in Qld.

    • couple who live 600m

      Let me guess, hubby snores?

  • At this point no-one know how long for. What it means for now is that unless you are an essential worker (healthcare etc) you will need to self isolate for 14 days if you want to enter Qld.

In SA (at least) this means signing a declaration on entry stating your address while isolated and then staying there for 14days.

The borders aren't closed. Apparently this is against the constitution, so there are restrictions on entering the state

  • So, how are they going to police every road entering the state?

  • The short answer is no, they're not going to be able to police every single road or person into QLD (or any other state for that matter). I would assume that this is to discourage people from travelling interstate ahead of the holiday season. Moving between states is not a huge issue, given that infection rates are quite similar across the major cities, however, people who are travelling on holidays tend to do more social things so this is more preventing that.

All the states need to keep Victorian’s and especially NSW residents out.
The 2 biggest international airports just letting everyone in for months, coughing and spluttering. Even people who self reported sick at the airports got waived in.
Then there is the Ruby Princess disaster, that ship left Sydney 8 days before with Americans on board, who have been exporting the virus for weeks, so undoubtedly had the virus on board when it left.
It visited every major port in NZ then by absolute incompetence 2700 people walked into and dispersed in our community.
Just as NZ closed its borders and stood a chance with only 25 detected cases.
    It’s tragic.
