Holden Astra / Holden Trax

Hi

I called up a local Holden dealer yesterday inquiring about the Astra and the Trax - hoping to score a bargain for the discontinued cars.
I was quoted $21k for the Astra base modell and the Trax $22k for the base model.

Sounds like a complete rip off - has anyone else scored a better deal (anywhere near the rumoured $12-$15k drive away) for these cars? We are willing to transact asap.

Thanks.

    I remember that deal.

It says unobtainable now. Not sure if it really happened.

Most likely only a few cars were that price to get the marketing up for Holden, but I suggest buying japanese for higher quality and aftermarket service.

How long is the warranty and who will provide it?

    Uh huh, uh huh… no.

yeah Car Advice contacted almost every Holden Dealer and not one was selling cars at the prices advertised on the OzB deal/Media Article.
The subsidies given to the dealers were good, but no where near that good.

    Why would you?
A mate owns the current shape Astra. He had an accident last year. 3 months to get parts and many were wrong when they arrived.

Everything I hear about the Trax is that they are poorly built and not a good car.

Yup. Almost certainty to have issues with parts and dealer support, on vehicles which are almost certain to have issues.

You'd need to be a masochist (or a mechanic yourself) to want a piece of that.

If you can, you'll want to avoid Astras and Traxs.
    Poor quality build.

As others have recommended consider something japanese. Corollas, Mazda 3's or even Hyundai i30's (Korean I know) are really nice.

Even a $13k astra or trax is overpriced, especially when it breaks down in a year and you need parts.

    • Maybe you can make money taking it apart and selling it for parts…. since parts will be in high demand lol.

      • This mans a thinker. Way to keep yourself employed during the outbreak. Just charge retail while the dealers are closed and you’re set.

Well of course you would if you were getting a brand new car for $12-15k lol it's not gonna happen, and never did happen

    • The best deal I've known about was when Skoda discontinued local sales of the Roomster (the first time around) which usually sold for around $25k. They had a handful left in the holding yard and they were up to 3 years old. The all went to the one dealer on Sydney's north side and sold within 48 hours for $17k no matter what the spec.

        Googles Skoda Roomster

        Throws up a little

        • They are the type of car that you should only approach blindfolded.

The best I can say is that they are very practical.

I'd love to know what idiot signed off on the proportions between the front window and all the others.

If you want it, buy it. If you think it is overpriced (even with runout discounts), don’t buy it.

If you have to ask on here, you don’t know enough about cars, go do some more research.
