Hi Mate i JUST bought a new xbox 360 slim. Arrived 2 days ago. I did a bunch of research and decided to go with a XBOX 360 4GB slim then upgrade with a plugin 250GB hdd. The reason i went this route is based on the sale Dick smith has on this site for the 37" DSE LCD + XBOX 360 4GB for $499. At the moment people are flogging those 4gb xboxes from that package and also a cheap deal JB hifi had. I won a auction from ebay for $235 it was brand new.

use auction sniper (auctionsniper.com) and bid on one. You should be able to get for less than $250.
Once you have the xbox then you can just plug a 250gb hdd in like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/250GB-Hard-Drive-Microsoft-Xbox36…) That one is a aussie only seller and buy it now. I'm sure you can get slightly cheaper from hong kong or winning a auction bid.

So thats a brand new 250gb xbox slim with konekt compatibility for only ~ $290-300. I hope that helps you?

Consoles are usually good to grab from eBay so long as you don't mind that it's second hand. Try to buy one with a lot of games then trade them all in towards pre-orders at Game or Ebay and before you know it he'll have the console and all the games he wants for the next few months for the same price which you'd pay for a console and one or two games in any store buying new.
