Dick Smith 37" HD LCD + 4GB Xbox 360 with Rugby World Cup 2011 Game - $499 (31/08/11-12/09/11)

1091

Figured this was a fairly decent deal coming out with the latest Dick Smith catalogue, especially for those looking to upgrade their living room TV's alongside with their gaming consoles.

Basically you're getting a 37" HD LCD TV which is one of the newer models at Dick Smith, with a 4GB Xbox 360 Slim console with Rugby World Cup 2011 Game.

The TV itself retails at $499, and the newer console bundle (which doesn't have Kinect) retails for $349.

So the normal price for both is $848, so you can even look at it as if you're paying $349 for the console and only $150 for a 37" LCD!

Like I said the 37's only came in a week or so ago, but they do look rather nice, especially with a snazzy Samsung style glass base.

Update: For those wondering about how many HDMI/RCA etc ports on the TV.
HDMI x2 back
RCA x2 side and back
Component x1 back
USB x1 side
VGA x1 back

The above might be a little incorrect, but that was from a quick look at work, but I guarantee that there's 2 HDMI ports.

I think you will find the 4GB xBox Rugby World Cup bundle is selling for $288 at Harvey Norman mate. Still wouldn't be a bad price for the TV though if that's what you wanted but.

  • Shit, not bad.

personally would rather wait for another good JB deal on a 32" fullHD LED for $299 or less.

    • I just bought a pretty decent FHD LCD from DSE for $299.

  • +1

Wow this is a really good price.:D

  • +1

I would personally wait for a 1080p at this size, but it's still a great deal.

  • +1

great deal!! two thumbs up :)

  • +1

Ditch the TV for $300 to some work mates. Makes Xbox $199.

  • +2

if this came with kinect drools

  • +3

Yeh, the tv doesn't have to be full hd at that size. You could sell the xbox 360 and be spending $250 on a 37" tv.

    • +2

I'd rather sell the TV for the XBOX.

      • +3

        why not keep both?

        • +33

Ah, the bargain has come full circle, or 360 as it were.

  • +1

What video connections does it have i.e. Hdmi, component …

What about bundling the box with this TV
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/GE6164/vivo-119cm-47-quot-fu…
for $99 more as an OzB exclusive?

    • +1

      Dang! you cheap S O B LOL …but I like it

      • The 47" TV costs 99 more @ DSE and if I get a new TV it's gotta be a least 42" and FHD. Not that I can refute your claim ;)

    • -1

The reason it's at $598 is it is an old model, there are very few left, most are display models. So unfortunately, 'no dice'.

  • +3

Great price, shame its a DSE TV though :(

  • +1

this is full specification for this tv from dse website.firstly no mention of connectivity.secondly 6.5ms response time is no good at all and the last one and the funny thing is the remote control not included in the box.big question mark for rrp $499.i wouldn't touch no brand name tvs no matter how cheap they are.

It's a rubbish TV but the deal ain't bad.

    • +21

So you spin around and end up staring at the Xbox again? Massive fail.

    • -3

If you do a 360 then you'll be exactly where you were before.

      • -1

        O RLY?

      • Hurr derr

    • +6

Can't tell if trolling or just incredibly stupid

    • -2

LOL don't know if you did pre-school but I hope you didn't slam right into the xbox when you did that (angry dicky employees gonna chase you out :D)

    • +7

Only works if you moonwalk out of there, (which does sometimes follow a 360 spin). ;)

    • -2

this should make the epic treads

      fail joke

      • -1

        +1 massive fail

  • The TV can play mkvs? I'm kinda tempted!
I suppose I could give the 360 away as a present to brothers too since I already have a few.
I'll have to keep an eye on this deal, even with the low quality, it wouldn't be too bad as a spare.

    • -6

      "The TV can play mkvs?"

No, this TV isn't one of those TVs that displays stuff that you play through it.

  • anyone who just wants the xbox and will sell the tv, pm me. I'm in melbourne

  • Me too looking for the TV only.. if anyone in Sydney wants to have the xbox, let me know..

    • meeee

I'll sell you the tv for $299!!!

      send me a msg :D

      in sydney

  • Pretty good deal since the TV itself is currently $499.
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/GE6804/dick-smith-37-quot-hi…

If this wasn't a 4GB console i'd be all over splitting the deal with some1

  • Anyone spoken to DSE reps about this? I'm going to get it. Sell the XBOX haha

    • i will buy ur xbox sir!

      • How much are you thinking?

        • send me a msg

  • anyone in newacastle and wants to sell the xbox, let me know!

    • snow36009 is not accepting e-mails.
Turn them on/Say how much you will buy xbox for

      • sorry dude, just turned it on…

well i was hoping for someone around the newcastle area for pick-up, coz with postage it will end up around the same price as one in the store on its own…

considering that TV is $499 on its own n the xbox is free but i can get for $280. what were u thinking?

        • Holy crap! OzB at its finest!! He's asking you how much you would buy the Xbox for, and you do a 360 and ask him how much he's willing to part with it. Stop wasting time and pick a price!

IanPlatypus, sell him the Xbox for $180. Snow, you're going to buy the Xbox at $180 for ~35% discount, leaving Ian also with ~35% off his TV. Done.

        • I was even just giving him some advice, I don't think I will buy the package based on a few people saying about the quality of the tv. but then you get what you pay for I guess.

        • yer i want a 250gb anyway.

  • I think this deal gives a ball park figure of the cost of bundles to come with the ps3 + 24" 3d monitor due soon.

  • I foresee a lot of 4gb xbox 360 slims and 37" LCDs going up for sale on OCAU/OzBargain over the next few days.

  • Let me know who in Sydney by msg who wants to buy the xbox.

    • Could be, if I know how much you are asking for it?

      • What price are you prepared to pay?

  • They are now for sale!!!

  • Just had a look at it today. I'll save my money on something more worthwhile. It's ok for a spare but the build is pretty much what you are paying for. Imo for gaming you need larger than a 37" anyways not to mention full hd for other things.

  • pulled the trigger tv looks fine to me compared to my old philips lcd

  • Anyone in Hobart after the XBox, or who I can buy the TV off???

  • Do i need to buy kinect now if I have x-box? :(

I wonder why I waste so much money

    :(

  • Mate grabbed one yesterday, staff in DSE made it a hassle, had to wait for a manager to confirm the deal even though they have flyers with the deal all over their store. Gave us a carton damaged 360 as well, when we asked for one without a damaged box we were told they only had two in stock, both damaged. This was 9am day the sale started.
    Great deal, awful staff :(

    • That is really bad!
      Which branch was it?

  • Does anyone here know if it's possible for them to chuck in the PS3 instead of the xbox for an extra <100$? Cause if not, I'm willing to sell the xbox aswell. Pickup melb

    • If you are still looking to sell the Xbox… I'm interested.

      • EMail address? or inbox me?

  • I had a look at these in store yesterday. The TV quality is pretty woeful and it doesn't support 1080P. In fact it's not even the right aspect ratio for 720P. This is not at all ideal considering it comes with an Xbox 360 that pumps out both 720P and 1080P.

When I was in store the TV was playing Toy Story 3 along with all the other TVs in the same area. This provided me with a fairly decent opportunity to compare. This TV showed a LOT of motion blur, and had strange purple pixelation issues during heavy movement and cuts between camera shots. The contrast was terrible and black reproduction is pretty painful.

Don't get me wrong this deal isn't too bad considering the Xbox 360 alone is $349. However if you're interested in this deal for the TV itself then you're making a big mistake. There's no way this TV is worth $500. When you go in store I highly recommend you compare the picture quality to other TVs that are smaller and cheaper. There's no point buying a larger TV if it outputs a lower resolution and worse picture quality.

I can't remember the make or size but there was one other TV in particular that was $448. It was a bit smaller but churned out 1080P and quite reasonable colour reproduction for that sort of price.

In summary, if you're on the market for an Xbox 360 and willing to pay a bit extra for a low-quality TV then this deal is probably for you. However if it's a TV that you're really after try not to get suckered in by the bonus Xbox 360, that is the reason it's included after all!

    • its not bad for a second tv or something, for the kids to watch while you're watching the good one :)

    • Yes because we all know that in store picture settings are perfect. :S

  • anyone having problems with the digital tuner I keep losing ch 7 all other tvs at 100% signal and if I pulg into that point 100% too

    • -1

Did you need to buy an external antenna for that as well? TO receive the channels?

      • swapped it over new one works well probably faulty tuner.
No I already have a digital external antenna

  • my TV does not turn on!

    • helppp!

      • -1

no help for people who vote negative for no reason :P

  • -2

    Selling xbox if interested

    • why did you neg the deal? You bought one!!

      • only to realise later that the in-built tuner is faulty which is getting no channels!

  • Anyone OzBargainers wanting the Xbox? Before I sell it to some random for 330$AUD?. Willing to sell it for 290 :)
