I think someone posted in one of the earlier amazon deals how to make a amazon account from Australia that works with this?

nope, not true. I just activated my mate's android as well yesterday. Still works on mine and his.

You would not use an American cookbook that had not been edited for Australia.
They have different measurements and ingredients to here. Anyone who has used online recipes knows it is easier to stay with Australian sites.

basic measurements are easy to convert…2 stick of their butter = 1 stick of our butter… ounce = 28grams etc…But yeah i agree some stuff is pretty difficult to find eg. liquid smoke…Wish we had a walmart here :(

Sometimes I find some good recipes from american celebrity chefs like bobby flay :)

The measurements arent easy to convert on the fly at all. How will most people know 2 of their sticks of butter equals one of ours? I certainly didnt. I asked a few mates and none of them didn't either.

Manic is right, its nuts to use an unmodified American cook book unless you remeasure everything and by that time, you're better off looking up aussie recipes online anyway.

what sort of measurement is a 'stick' ? How many grams or ounces is this ?
Its like recipes that say 'one medium potato', its like a random amount.

Then theres the "US tablespoon is 15ml, Aus tablespoon is 20ml" thing.

I'm a big believer that in this age of cheap digital scales, ALL recipe measurements should be in grams. Depending how its sifted or packed in, a cup of flour could be 120 gm or 210gm. /end rant

        • Do you think 5 ml is going to change the recipe taste that much? Nope.

        • There are bigger differences. Like an "entree" serve:-)

And what is cornstarch? cilantro? half and half?
Where do you get corn syrup?
Did you know their bacon is different to ours? They call ours "Canadian bacon".

Sure you can learn, but there are plenty of good Oz recipe sites.

      • In case you are still looking…..I bought liquid smoke from "The Re Store" in Perth a couple of years ago (Haven't tried to buy since).

    Yep, crappy imperial measurements.
    Uninstalled.

  • There are only two recipes in the app to start you off. You're supposed to fill in the rest. This imperial measurements issue is nothing to neg the app for. Use the search function and it will search online for recipes matching your criteria. If they were in imperial measurements it's not the fault of the app. there's also a template in the help docs so you can type up your own recipes in a computer and import it into the app.

hmmmm….. negging a product because people are not smart enough to convert measurements…… (Personally, I'm not sure I would want other folk to know I was not that bright……)

anyhow, for any knuckle draggers who find it hard……. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.redbinary.rmc&feat…

    Recipe Convert Free….. should help
