to help keep Australians informed about coronavirus pandemic.

Because we are lacking in this area ??

    • +47

      https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/

Always free to access and worth every dollar we pay in tax.

      • +2

        Can't agree enough!

        • One step off the Guardian - let the users pay!

          • -1

@jaclarkaus: The cost of the ABC is a mere peccadillo compared to the $90B tax concessions Howard and Costello gave to multinational gas companies. Any comment on that?

Let me guess, you're a city dweller who knows sfa about the full range of ABC activities? More to the point you appear to live in a dreamworld. No doubt you'd be surprised that taxpayers subsidise News Corp and pretty much every business ever established. That's necessary in most cases and is a good investment generally speaking because those business generate jobs, wealth and services. There are plenty of exceptions.

Here's a question for you. How far should we extend your user pays principle? Education? Roads? Defence? Law? Health and hospitals? Should we charge everyone individually for their carbon and waste footprints? Personally I'd prefer the introduction of a stupidity tax. Would raise billions from conservatives and self-centred navel gazers.

    Nah I'm good.

  • +19

    Yeah no thanks.

    Free access to Faux News

  • +2

Who's the loser in the link?

    • +13

That's Steve Jackson. He couldn't figure out how to switch to front cam on his phone so he had the genius idea of taking a selfie from the mirror in the elevator. The CEO of The Australian was so impressed, they gave him the job as an editor.

      • +3

As surprising as it will be to many, The Australian was once a half-decent rag. In the last 20+ years under successive editors it's become little more than a purveyor of lies, myth, right-wing propaganda, and misinformation.

  • +12

Everything you need to know is on the government's website. Best reading about it there rather than reading the emotionally charged reporting in the media.

  • +18

I don't understand, how do I wipe my arse on an app?

    • +2

Nicely put. Adding another layer of shyte does seem rather pointless. At least with their rags you can light campfires and send smoke signals to absent PMs.

  • +10

    Haven't we (profanity) suffered enough

  • +4

    Misinformed it should read !

  • +6

The same newscorp that talked about the top items to hoard in an pandemic and then wrote news articles asking why has Australia gone mad?

  • +10

    No.

There's already enough misinformation online as it is.

    Stick to https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/.
    Reliable & Free.

  • +23

Australians are safer when the content is safely quarantined behind a Paywall

    • +4

One of the few decent things they've done for the nation in the last 5 decades.

  • +2

I certainly wouldn't make safety or health decisions based on anything the Murdoch press publishes.

Look at the lies Murdoch's Fox News is peddling in the US.

    Notwithstanding that, a good offer.

    • +4

      Notwithstanding that, a good offer.

      Free propaganda is still propaganda

  • +2

    Loll. No thanks uncle Rupert.

  • +2

    Yeah nah

  • +1

to help keep Australians informed about coronavirus pandemic

    lol

    • Happy April foo… hey wait

  • +3

Would rather eat an old bat

  • +4

Finally we can learn the truth about how the virus is being spread by arsonists.

    Hard Pass

  • +3

Free lies and misinformation, I don't think so.

  • +3

    Societal cancer.

  • Parts of News Corp is free, and even that should be abstained from regardless.

  • control the narrative

  • Rupert doesn't sell news, he sells propaganda to the highest bidder… which happens to be the Liberal Party.
This is not a bargain, this is preying on people who don't know the difference.

  • Couldn't pay me to try it.

    • +6

I'm not leftist… I just like my news truthful and complete with facts.
If you think Fox News, Sky News, and any other News Corp outfit is truthful and factual, then you have bigger problems.

But that's ok… laugh away. As they say, ignorance is bliss.

      • -4

Did you even read what I said??? Here’s a tip - open the other eye….

    • Hahaha look at all those leftist negs. Please let me know :- if the Negs were coloured blue instead of red, would you have voted the same way ???? Please stop pretending that the ABC news isn’t just as biased as anything Murdoch produces - except on the other side… If you want the truth, read the same story from each source and then the truth is somewhere in the middle…. Let the Negs rain down on me…

Your opinion, as ignorant as it is, is noted. You might want to clarify something though - what part(s) of the ABC are biased? Is Countrywide biased for example? The ABC is a huge organisation with a very wide range of media products and services. I'll presume your comment relates mainly to current affairs because most who make similar comments clearly know bugger all about the organisation, its governance or its products. You'll be surprised to learn no doubt that every enquiry into the ABC has concluded that there is no systemic bias. And, surveys always place the ABC way above other media organisations for trust and factual reporting. That doesn't mean the ABC is perfect, nor does it mean it doesn't make reporting errors, but no thinking adult should expect that to be the case. Google Media Net Trust if you want to lift the veil of your ignorance.

Out of interest - was the ABC biased when Howard appointed his man as GM and stacked the board with what he assumed would be compliant supporters? Thankfully one of the enduring truisms about ABC GMs (and most board members) is that they take their roles seriously and endeavour to adhere to the charter, irrespective of their personal politics. My suggestion is that you try doing some reading before you comment on things you obviously know sfa about.

  • is it 1st of April already?

  • LOL

  • +1

    keep Australians informed

Are they trying a new thing now?

  • I don’t recommend News Ltd.

I do recommend this ALWAYS FREE weekday podcast and email, always under 10min for the podcast and about the same to read the email - The Squiz -> http://cloud.mythesquiz.com.au/signup

For any breaking news, then ABC has it almost always covered.

  • I'd upvote this if they were giving their papers away for free - at least they could be used as toilet paper.

  • -1

I'd rather die from respiratory complications.

  • No thanks! Free sites way better than yours.

  • +2

Misinformation and propaganda is not a deal

  • +3

Reading newscorp garbage is literally worse than corona virus and I'm no leftie.

  • News Corp = Racist and Bias view and spreading fake news.

  • To the benefit of not spreading sensationalist journalism… No deal!

  • No deal. Making this free can only worsen things.

  • The news site which encourage hoarding and perpetuates fear. No thanks.

  • +1

I've got all Murdoch media blocked by Personal Blocklist (not by Google) because it keeps cluttering the top of Google searches and it's all behind paywalls. Might have to adjust that for 30 days. Maybe not.

  • +1

    Free news to brainwash people

  • +2

Can't believe I've actually got comment on this post to neg it. Should be a free pass to downvote News Limited posts. Anyway here's why I'm negging it.

Spreading lies and misinformation for a personal and political agenda is dangerous. Especially during a health and economic crisis. Making more of this available to more people is therefore irresponsible. News is already available for free from other reliable sources and as such this is not a bargain either.

  • There is plenty of biased BS free online already

    • Also double downvote cause they're still trying to force their stupid tracking BS through tracking.news.con.au…. No fail Rupert. (Clicked link without realising through The Guardian)

  • Because noones reading our conspiracy shit, we'll give it to everyone for free just to instill panic into those that weren't already.

  • +1

    There are still paywalls.

  • +1

i think news corp is not good value. even at the cost of "free", you are still paying for it as it is propaganda. the sooner the company folds, the better civilization will be.
