How Are You Exercising in The Lockdown?

So we are now down to groups of two (not really a group, but whatever) outdoors. How are you coping with maintaining your exercising while this virus takes over?

I’m not a gym bunny so don’t miss that they are shut and will continue to work a physical job outdoors which helps. Other than that, taking the immediate family to the local field for a kick of soccer or going for a run or bike ride in the bush behind our estate except if it’s wet (has been) and around the suburb if wet. Also set up some weights out the back verandah for now. Gardening and mowing will also help.

What are you up to?

You hav ett trust in yourself… the gym has offered you insight into what you can do.

I have a pen to write on my bathroom mirror. I draw images of various exercises that target specific muscle areas.

    Trust in yourself!

I do 95 pushups per day on my knuckles.
I use dumbbells, and have a door exercising frame to do pull-ups. from this I have rope with handles to do even more push-ups.

I am learning Tic Tok foot work..(walking man) dance…
I then grab the skip rope and start skipping.

I then finish up on my "wooden dummy" (martial arts).

I am turn 60 in a matter of months, and aiming for for 100 push-ups.

This is how I know I am alive!

    • 'finish up on my "wooden dummy"'

thought you said wooden dunny - used to have one of those outhouses - newspaper and sawdust - job dun !

  • since the PM said we were only allowed out for essential shopping, medical or exercise

my usual exercise is a Johnny Howard style 1-3 hour walk

thinking to go for a stroll in the city - to see the empty malls

carrying my shopping bag so if stopped 'essential shopping orificer!'

    • Green trackie and Federal police escort?

  • Ring Fit adventure on the Switch. I actually bought it a while ago, but was too lazy to really get into it. Doing it every day now during my lunch break now that I'm working from home, and it's great for a short but surprisingly intense workout (well, intense for a fairly unfit person like me).

Also doing evening walks once the Mrs gets home, and would like to squeeze one more walk in before work too, but I'm enjoying the sleep ins too much. I live in the outer burbs, so you can go for a long walk and only see a small handful of people, so pretty easy to maintain distance.

  • I've taken up day drinking. Great exercise for the right arm.

  • Hasn't changed, go for a 2-3 hour walk at 4am in the morning, still do.

Thank to you it going to be ozbargained soon.

  • So we cracked out our old Wii console for quarantine lols with our toddler. Forgot we had Just Dance 2. There is a fitness mode on it, now my wife and I are addicted to it. It actually does a pretty good job of getting our 10k steps. Gotta try and find other Just Dances to get us through the next 3 months…

  • Daily walks at lunchtime, weekly yoga classes which have now switched to live/online. Plus some training on 7 minute workout and HIIT apps and skipping rope

  • My gym hired out small packs of weights and made a new coronavirus program that we do at home using those weights. They've also uploaded videos of the exercises too, it's pretty cool.

  • Fell in love with group fitness 18 months ago and went 6-7 times a week pre-lockdown. It has become such a habit that I feel uncomfortable whenever I don't do something intensive for more than a day.

I currently go for a 4-5km run every day or two (4 times in the past week). I have also joined Les Mills On Demand where I can continue to do some of the group fitness classes that I so love as well as trying new ones. In addition to running, I do classes when I don't run and have now just got into yoga which I found great to do at night to stretch out tired muscles and the back from sitting in my home office all day.

So far I feel even more active than before, the key is not let the fire go out as it will be harder to get back into it. Stay motivated people!

  • I have a gym set up at home since a few years ago and it comes in handy now (weights, bench and spin bike). I also go for a run in the park.

I have always had and preferred a home gym so I'm fine

Going for a run/walk with dumbbells……. less likely to touch my face with weights in my hand.

    Wii boxing.

  • I've been touching exposed electrical wires to raise my heart rate.

I have a small home gym. After my treadmill died so I replaced it with a Recumbent Bike. I also have a punching bag, speed ball, sit-up bench and some dumbbells. Also have a ropeless digital skipping rope (yes that's a thing).

But since scomo said all gyms are closed I just sit on the couch ant watch TV :D

Body Weight Routine from Reddit BodyWeightFitness. Pretty decent, can improvise most exercises from couches/chairs etc.

We live in the suburbs. Have a treadmill and a few weights. Also have some nice streets and bush areas around to walk in. So a bit of combination of things.

  • can you still ride the bike around say centennial park or the olympic park all for exercise purposes.

  • I finally reinflated the tyres on my neglected Trikke 8 (a cambering HPV that folds for carrying) I took it out for a couple rides. Aiming to limit myself to predawn runs and/or using first of the day bus services to bridge legs of my exploratory routes.

  • a fair bit of whack bat

  • Wahoo Kickr and zwift membership. Chasing folks from all around the world around on a fictional island in my make-believe lycra.

  • My $100 Gym from Aldi + daily walk

  • I keep hearing tennis is restricted and then unrestricted. Can anyone confirm for NSW? Tried looking on tennis NSW but they haven't updated to the most recent date.

  • It's amazing how many runners and walkers, or cars I see out and about now, everyone has swapped a car for getting outside! I go for a ride before and after work and have been prepping myself indoors on a trainer for a while now (incredibly boring) when/if the situation worsens and we aren't able to go outside for exercise..

  • Is there any resource for doing group exercises like body pump or body attack at home? I miss going to those classes.

  • Why aren't Eneloops on the list?

  • I'm going to try and build this $140 Bunnings Squat Rack

Smart trainer + Zwift. Great investment. Do about 10kms a day.

    • Me too, my cycling has been improving out of sight, I started out at 10 kms a day, now up to around 40 km a ride every other day now with huge increase in my FTP, Zwift kms are harder than outdoor kms because you dont get to coast down hills etc, it's pedal to the metal the whole time!

  • Got my Olympic barbell, Olympic dumbbells, Olympic weights (90 Kg) a Marcy D879 bench and Olympic Super Curl Bar last week, happy with everything since I got it at "normal".

The Bench is nice since it has an independent squat rack, a biceps preacher and legs extension attachment.

Planning on getting a home gym but everything is out of stock or back-ordered for the end of May- late July.

    • The backorders are mental - i saw some bikes on kogan on backorder till Aug

  • Combination of indoor exercise bike, running and kicking the footy. Can't go wrong!

  • Surfing if good and walking/swimming with the dog.
