  • Can this kill mr corona?

    • Actually it might do…

    • +1

It has ethanol alcohol in it, but it doesnt indicate the percentage. Needs to be at least 60% to be effective against corona.

If the ingredients are listed in order of their % content (referencing the back of the bottle ingredients) then it may only contain a trace of alcohol.

      • +2

I believe this product is mostly water as it's listed as the first ingredient.

          "Waterless Hand Cleaner"
          Ingredients: Water.

          • @happykamper: Means you don't need water to clean your hands with it

      • My original answer was no But then I saw it had alcohol in the ingredients But I wasnt thinking about percentages….

      • Does it have ethanol? I couldn't see it from bottle label.. I think it's just a soap with more effective degreasing capability.

        • 8th ingredient is ethanolated alcohol. It's likely just a dash of alcohol though.

    • +1

No, it'll fatten it up and make it stronger though.

    • -1

Not sure but aren't the cheaper degreaser sprays >90% alcohol of some sort?

  • +5

    lanolin? like sheep's wool?

    • +1

      🐑 that's right - a fat used as a good moisturiser 🐑

Not a good idea of you want to prevent the spread of covid 19 which has a fat coating.

The alcohol based hand sanitizers act by removing the fat on your skin. This adds fat to your skin.

This is just a hand conditioner & cleaner.

    • Yes - it moisturises.

    • +2

      Over their heads.. lol

    • Whoosh!

    • i was thinking exactly that.

  • Unless this contains a minimum of 60% alcohol its only value against corona is to use it to physically hit the virus and squash as many as you can.

    • +1

Washing your hands with soap is superior in removing viral particles than ethanol based sanitisers

      • +1

Absolutely but you have to wash the virus away with water, so after using the hand cleaner you need to flush it away. I find that using the principle of staying in your neighborhood you will need approximately 20 x 25 metre hoses attached to your car for that water supply.

  • +1

Hand cleaner - not hand sanitizer.

  • +3

    Waterless Gel

    first ingredient listed: Water.

  • -1

Hey…why not just wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with just soap….virus dead…yeahhh

    • +3

Because this has nothing to do with killing viruses. They never advertised it as such. This is sold by Repco, a car parts supply store. It's meant for cleaning grease oil off your hands after working on your car. Normal hand soap can have a hard time with grease.

  • +1

Cheaper similar product, again not hand sanitizer at Super Cheap

    https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/sca-sca-heavy-duty-hand-…

  • What's the usual price?

  • What's the normal price? Seems this is normal price??
Similar products are cheaper - as commented above.

As this is a hand cleaner & moisturiser for use when working on vehicles etc - how is this a bargain?

  • +1

And if this is equivalent to soap, then this will kill Covid-19. Soap and warm water is better than hand sanitiser at killing viruses. It would appear to be the equivalent of soap, as it "dissolves grease and oil".

  • +1

"Dissolves grease and oil" - sounds like it's good for KFC as a substitute for their wet wipes

    • Haha. I actually sometimes use Solvol soap after eating greasy food.

  • The vast majority of the cleansing power of any soap product lies in the mechanical action which will physically remove contaminants. The aim is not to kill the bacteria or render the virus inert - just to get them off your hands.

  • Basically, it is almost impossible to find GENUINE hand sanitiser with the recommended alcohol content at the moment. Majority of the supplies have been reserved by Hospitals or Businesses, so this item is just an option to have when you go out and don't have access to soap and water. I already picked a couple for the car and tried it and it definitely cleans, so that for me is better than nothing. I would expect the Supercheap option is the same.

    • What about these?

  • Eug, have you successfully ordered from there?

    • Nope, I don't need any at the moment so I haven't ordered from them.

  • They may be ligit, but I am not taking the risk. I've already had 2 places cancel my order with a refund due to no more stock. I believe there will eventually be an oversupply of all these high demand items once the dust settles, but for now hope every Ozbargainer stays safe and healthy :)

    • They may be ligit, but I am not taking the risk. I've already had 2 places cancel my order with a refund due to no more stock.

Isn't there more risk in using a grease and oil cleaner to try and sanitize your hands, than to try and order actual alcohol-based sanitizer? It's not like they're going to run off with your money - what's the risk? :)

  • Eug, you have never ordered from these guys, yet you are recommending me order from them, what the…. Once you successfully order from a place, then you can recommend.

    • +2

You said it was almost impossible to buy alcohol-based hand sanitizer, so you were sanitizing your hands with citrus oil cleaner instead.

I then gave a link to a local distillery that appears to have a ready supply of alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

You then said you're not taking the risk ordering from them and would rather continue sanitising your hands with citrus oil hand cleaner.

I asked what the risk was, you then questioned why I was recommending them when I haven't ordered from them myself. You also are of the opinion that people can only suggest stores if they have bought from them before - otherwise they should not give any suggestions.

OK then. Just continue using your citrus hand cleaner.

  • Eug, you just love getting the last word. Ozbargain is a community and almost a family and we look out for each other, so when we recommend a site or product it is based on either having first hand experience. We can all google for products and find web sites. The risk is trusting these unknown sources, will I get what I ordered? Will I get my money back etc.

    • Eug, you just love getting the last word.

You do realize you're not letting this go yourself, right?

and almost a family and we look out for each other

Keep in mind you said you were using citrus oil hand cleaner because you couldn't buy proper alcohol hand sanitizer.

I sent you a link to a local distillery that sells proper alcohol hand sanitizer so you wouldn't have to use a possibly ineffective hand cleaner.

For some reason you immediately suspect that the Brisbane Distillery and Gin School is out to scam people, and insist that only people who have purchased an item can post that deal on OzBargain.

so when we recommend a site or product it is based on either having first hand experience.

No, that is incorrect. There plenty of deals here that are posted by people who have not bought the item or from the store in question.

When you pay by credit card, you have protection from your credit card company - you can always do a chargeback. Because it's so easy to do a chargeback, it is very, very unlikely that an established local business would be scamming people by taking their money and not sending them the product.

The risk is trusting these unknown sources, will I get what I ordered?

For sanitizing hands, I would trust an alcohol-based hand sanitizer sold by a distillery more than a grease and oil hand cleaner sold by Repco.

The decision is yours. I'm not forcing you to buy proper hand sanitizer, I just gave you a link to a local distillery that's selling it. I'm not sure why you're so worked up about it.
