  • A little more info?

It is uncertain which retailer on StaticIce is a Cisco Partner.

    • I work for a Cisco Partner, and I do get a lot of emails coming through about promotions but I can't recall seeing anything about this one. Nothing on the distributor Cisco sections either.

  • is this better than the orbi?

    • Is this a serious question or are you taking the p.ss?

      • I'm serious. can you tell me what is better? it seems slower.

        • I paid $300 for my rbk50 pair. This is more than 2x the amount.

        • +2

          Orbi

          • is a mesh system
          • is a consumer grade product
          • requires little technical knowledge to deploy
          • is designed for low density deployment in the home or in a small office
          • the system will crash if too many clients start connecting to it
          • has little to no centralised management and security
          • is easily installed: simply pair a station and put it down near a powerpoint

          Aironet

          • is a classic access point (with mesh mode support)
          • is an industrial grade product
          • better ask a network consultant before you purchase
          • is designed for medium to high density deployment in large offices, in public places
          • is focused on long term stability instead of speed; it should not (and must not) crash even under tremendous load
          • works best in conjunction with network management & security systems
          • should be installed after performing signal strength surveys on the premises

Neither is better. They are different like how a sports car (fast but fragile, higher maintenance) is different to a truck (slow but heavy duty, goes all day).

  • Do these require ongoing licencing fees to operate like the Cisco cloud managed Meraki devices?

      No, it doesn't.

The APs can be loaded with Mobility Express (Mobility Express FAQ) and the AP itself can act like a WLC while operating as an AP.

Each 1815 or 1840 or 1852, loaded with Mobility Express, can support up to 50 other APs (including itself) and up to 1000 wireless clients (Release Notes).
