Airbnb Cancellation - AU Gov Documentation Help

Hi All,

Airbnb has extended their extenuating circumstances policy to 31st May. Very thankful this covers my trip to Bali except for a full cash refund they require documentation for selecting the reasons as government restrictions.

"Screenshot of official government site explaining the restrictions that prevent travel from your location to your destination.
Effective dates of the restriction must overlap with your reservation by at least one day
Excludes travel advisories."

This means I can't use smart traveller to show there is a level 4 travel ban.

Any help with what I can use that has an effective date range as well?

All i could find was this media release: https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/travel-restrictions but it has no end date.

thanks!

  • Pretty sure airbnb would be 'aware' of the COVID-19 restrictions in place. So use whatever one you want to use.

    • yes they are aware of the restrictions but still require proof as noted above

      • Strange…. I mean if they're aware of it, do they really need 400 people sending in 'proof'?

  • Although there is a ban on Australians traveling overseas this is a current situation and may well change by 31 May.
In other words I doubt you will find anything to support a case that you will be prohibited from traveling on 31 May

  • The legislation doesn't state an end date so you won't be able to get one. If you want one you're going to have to contact Greg Hunt who put the legislation in place.

    • thanks for this one, will see if Airbnb will accept this

      • The sunset date for the above legislation is 01-Apr-2030 unless it's amended or cancelled before that.

You can see that under "Details".

        • AirBnB approved my cancellation based on the above document. Thanks guys.

  • Has anyone had luck cancelling a booking for accommodation within their state? I booked accommodation late last year for 10 people for the purpose of my cousin's wedding (which was due to be mid May this year). They postponed the wedding until next year. The host I've booked with has been "helpful".. I've asked her for help cancelling my booking as it fits the criteria. She's just been giving me really brief guidance on cancelling bookings and says she's not sure how to do it from her end. I am eligible to receive travel credit but with cash refunds you need to provide documentation of sorts. It's giving me a lot of grief and the Airbnb support team feels like a pain to go through.
