With Baldur's Gate 3 coming this year I was thinking it was time to replay BGII, arguably one of the best RPGs out there. The regular price is quite high though for a game that is as old as it is, and I have bought it several times already on iPad and back when it first came out.

I found this deal on Amazon US, it is region blocked so you will need a VPN, change your store region and change your address/billing address. With a little bit of work I got it through and the code was sent immediately and redeemed without issue.

I believe this is nearly the lowest price ever.

Happy adventuring.

As someone who has never played this game, would you recommend it now? Or would you recommend to wait for the new one to release?

    • I've not played this so I'm about to buy it now, but If not this, then play Divinity Original Sin 2 if you haven't already. Larian are the ones working on BG3 and DOS2 is an absolutely incredible RPG.

BG1 and 2 have both been revitalized for Win10 and modern systems. Like all good RPGs, graphics are than OK, it is the adventure you have with your miniature giant space hamster that you cherish

I doubt you'd regret the purchase at this price - but it probably depends how much weight you put on graphics…

I think it is a great game and one of the best of all time, but maybe if you haven't played games like Divinity Original Sin (or DOS2), or Pillars of Eternity, they will be a bit more modern and polished.

There are definitely some annoying things about it that modern games have improved, like reducing the amount of walking around slowly, and having characters get stuck on things… My love for it is definitely partially nostalgia but for me it is one of my all time favourite games.

I second this. Only Planescape: Torment beats it for mine.

This price is an absolute steal too… if I hadn't spent $5 on shoes I almost certainly don't need earlier today, I would be getting this (though I might already own it - need to check Steam).

        • yes! Planescape Torment is another all time great. If Larian could do a reboot of that I'd be very happy!

    • I would.

        name checks out!

    • As long as you keep in mind that even the enhanced editions are going to be dated experiences, and that if you are unfamiliar with 2nd Edition D&D learning the systems may be a pain, then go for it. Just don't go in expecting the gameplay to be super similar to Baldurs Gate 3 when it comes out, which as a modern game will have a much cleaner and better user experience.

as others said, oldies love BG1 and 2 due to nostalgia. if you don't mind the dated graphics, gameplay wise it is still amazing. BG1 worth playing at least once for the story, BG2 is much bigger and worth multiple replays due to varying builds and lots of mods (i sank 200+ hours in BG2 back in uni days). also gives lots of incentive to read up on AD&D 2nd Ed rules. follow walkthroughs for a full experience, i recommend Dan Simpson's.

    • I found bg1 and 2, as well as icewind dale, drab. I played them all to completion about 10 years ago (bgtutu high res mod iirc) trying to find why they are revered. There's nothing wrong with them but they didn't click, possibly from being a million times too overhyped.

Planescape torment is the one I'd recommend, purely for the story. But warning the original is clunky in terms of fighting mechanics/ruleset and gui. Not sure how the remake plays, functionally speaking

Amazing game for its time and the story and dialog still hold up to be an amazing game now but the game play itself is a little dated

If you got a bit of spare time and like click based RPGs give it ago

Thanks OP, though I already have Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II CDs box set including the expansion, I decided this is easier to install. Since I don't have a permanent CD drive on my computer anymore.
