Pinot Noir Wine Deal Recommendations?

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has any Pinot noir recommendations atm with all the wine deals getting around? My partner and I have a decent wine collection but now that we are at home a lot more than usual, she is wanting some more of her go to wine of choice, Pinot noir. Looking for every day sort of drinkers in the $10-$20 price per bottle. Need her to stop drinking the $40 and up bottles currently in our collection on a random Tuesday now that being at home is the new normal lol. Hoping to find some decent ones that are on sale at the moment and expand her choice a bit. She’s a typical kiwi and hard to get her away from the Otagos.

Cheers

My go to Pinot Noir for many years has been the Hoddles Creek label, based around upper Yarra Valley region(Vic).
Price usually around the $20 mark but they do have some discount offers now and then, and also offer a cheaper label(Wickham Rd),as well.
Perhaps check their web-site and subscribe.
Everyone has their own preferred style, so you need to taste when the opportunity arises!

Fully agree with the reference to different preferred styles. Maybe scan through a major retailer (Dan Murphy, Vintage Cellars, etc) for Pinot Noirs and bundle up 6+ various bottles for your own tasting. Choose from different regions for the variety of styles, but keep to your price range.

Another way to pass the lockdown.

    • Thanks for the suggestion. We actually love Yarra valley pinots and wines in general, we are Yering station wine club members. Will take a look at Hoddles.

If she's dead keen on NZ pinot, the Kim Crawford from Marlborough (some vintages are blends of Marlborough and Otago) are very good for $20
Also, some Chilean pinots are very good value for money, but you might need to wade through some rough stuff before you get to the diamonds

    • Trying to get her to branch out from the NZ pinots :) she has started to begrudgingly admit that aus does make some nice ones too. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Get the Gapstead from Vinomofo. I got the 2018 and really enjoyed it, I'm liking all of the wines I've tasted from Gapstead.

And if you're not yet a member sign up with a referral code for a discount (or PM me and I'll give you my code).

    • They've opened a eBay store and you can get it here for $130 delivered if you use the PAINTED15 code, cheaper than buying direct!

      • Thanks for pointing out that there was a cheaper deal on eBay, that's in the true spirit of OzBargain.

How do you rate this Pinot Noir? I'm a fan of Jimmys/Take it to the Grave, do you think this one hits similar notes?

        • I hate rating wines, so subjective and I rate them very differently based on what else I've been eating / drinking / doing during the day. But based on what I remember from drinking it a couple of months ago I'd say it's medium bodied, nicely spiced, red fruit early, a bit of cherry on the finish, and well balanced. Of course I have not tasted the wines you mentioned, so can't comment but another favourite at the moment is the Pacha Mama Pinot Noir but I can't remember where I got that cheap.

My brother in law said "a really super delicious wine, probably the best I’ve had in a long while - just the right balance of spice and not too heavy". But that was a gift review, so may have been inflated.

@OZB Al: Sold! And it looks like you've convinced at least two other people to give them a go as well by the looks of the orders on eBay!

Let you know what I think, but it sounds delicious - thanks for the recommendation!

    • Oh wow that’s a good deal! Thanks will give it a go!

  • Also worth a try, but I've never tasted it https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/529420
