Killer Sprocket Rye IPA
Killer Sprocket Rye IPA is an American style IPA with a large hop presence. The beer utilises 16% rye in the malt bill to provide a dry and spicy finish. Killer Sprocket used Columbus as a dry hop to enhance the nose and create a more rounded flavour. ABV: 6.2%

Killer Sprocket Hey Juniper Pale Ale
Hey Juniper pours a hazy deep amber with a thick fluffy head and light carbonation. The aroma has a sweet burst of juniper and caramel with piney hops and citrus. There is a sharp and resinous bitterness that gives way to a light sweetness and flavours of juniper and spicy hops. ABV: 5.2%

The brewer cracked open both these beers this week and said they are drinking well. They've been cold stored by the brewery since production and both lend themselves to a longer shelf life. Please take note of Pack Dates on product pages too.

Love their juniper pale ale, ordered a case.

    Thanks OP.

    • Awesome. Cheers for your continued support!

Was keen on the other one as well but over 12 months old for an IPA, even cold stored, is a bit too long for me.

        • Best before on the IPA is August 2020. Shouldn't be more than 12 months old?

Shiiiiet. I didn't realise it was PACKED in Jan 2019 before I ordered the Pale. 18 months BBD is incredibly long - seems suss.

@mattkirkey: Ignore those dates, they mean very little to those that understand beer freshness.

@DrRalph: Usually IPA's don't age particularly well. My understanding is hops are particularly susceptible to age? Lot's of dark beers can get better with age though.

              • @Poimandres: Lots of myths around that. I drink plenty of aged IPA's and they are 95% as good as what they might have been if I'd drank them the day after production.

            • @DrRalph: @DrRalph - I know and understand beer freshness.
              Cans >> Bottles
Dark and Cold >> Heat and Light
Oxidation occurs as a factor of time, heat and light.
Hops are particularly sensitive to oxidation.

Dark, high ABV and sour beers are relatively okay with longer dates because oxidation can impart positive characteristics, allowing harsh flavours to mellow (typically high alcohol).

Hoppy beers, like IPAs, should be drunk within 3 months because the oxidation causes the hop profile to taper off, typically imparting negative characteristics, such as butter or cardboard.

I'm glad you don't mind an aged IPA, but to say that they're 95% as good is the myth mate.

Taste is a subjective thing, beer quality is not.

@mattkirkey: Pretty strange to have 1.5 year best before agreed.

  • "Killer…IPA", thought it was sanitizer

    • Haha! Excellent brew this one.

  • Ooh yeah. Just ordered myself some of the IPA. Now I just have to wait for it!

    • Thanks for grabbing some of the Rye IPA. Cases are still being cold stored at the brewery and will be dispatched on Thurs, April 16. Cheers!

  • IBU's for each of these?

      • Appreciated. Ordered a case of the RYE IPA.

        • Cheers for your support. Hope you enjoy it!

  • Keen to try this. Rye IPAs are one of my favourites. The ol Ruthless Rya IPA in particular.

At 84 IBUs this sounds serious.

    • 'ol Ruthless Rya IPA '

      How good is that beer!

Hard to find in Australia though.

  • Just ordered the rye - looking forward to it : )
