Qantas/Jetstar Cancelled Flight, Booked with Qantas Frequent Flyer Points

I cancelled my flight scheduled to be in late April, to Tasmania, on the 20 March, during the period where Qantas/Jetstar offered free cancellation. I received a flight ticket of the value of the booking/airport and what not fees, but I never got my miles back.

Can someone shed some light to how the Frequent Flyer points are returned/refunded

I had no option of Voucher ( as I probably booked with miles )

I wrote an email to Qantas: no answer

I sent a Facebook message, and after entering flight details, I never got an answer back.

I think Qantas could have stood down a few people less, and put them in the customer support section.

Update: After harassing them on Facebook, and email, I finally got also my point reimbursed.

  • You got a voucher to use. Why do they owe you points?

    • I got a voucher for the booking fees. No voucher for the points !

      • "I received a flight ticket of the value of the booking/airport and what not fees"

So this flight ti ker is just for the fees?

        • Yes. Airlines use flight tickets as money. Instead of refunding CASH, they give you a ticket, and you can use that as form of payment.
          Ticket is for FEES ONLY.

Karma for asking for a finders fee?

      gold

    • 3600 point finders fee for the person who finds my miles ! No probs.

      • Buuut… we're not the ones expecting a finders fee

          If you ( We ? ) don't want, that's fine by me.

  • Can someone shed some light to how the Frequent Flyer points are returned/refunded

They are refunded to your frequent flyer account.

    • Talking about experience ? Because my miles have not being refunded.

      • It can take up to 10 business days normally. Probably more given the staffing levels at the moment.

Did you get a "Qantas Refund Confirmation" email? If so just be patient.

I think Qantas could have stood down a few people less, and put them in the customer support section.

Better them stand down a few more people and not have your points being worthless on account of there being no airline.

  • I don't understand what you're saying? Are you asking for free points?

    • I am asking "Where are the miles I used to book my flight, which I cancelled"

      • But you said you got a new flight ticket? I'm afraid you don't get to have both.

        • Some people that actually really read - whole sentences -, might have seen that I got a ticket for the fees.
I still had to pay fees, when booking with point. Those fees have been refunded with a ticket. The same value of the original fees.
The miles used to book have not re-appeared anywhere.

Maybe if you constructed it a bit better, more humans may understand.

You received credits to use on flights, not a flight ticket, what fking flight can you book for $100?

@cameldownunder: You cant be mad at people not understanding your post. The terminology you've used is confusing.

Ticket is different to voucher. Ticket is what you use to enter/board the plane. Voucher is like a gift card, used to buy a ticket.

Booked with Quantas Frequent Flyer Points

    There's no you in QANTAS.

Sorry, of Latin origin. Audi Qattro !?
But there is a you in Queensland.

      • +4

QANTAS is an acronym, unlike Queensland

So the "U" is not that far away.

  • By that near miss logic it would perhaps be:

  • There is a significant backlog at this time from what I've understood - I'm waiting on my points on one booking, even though I have received the refunded portion for taxes on that ticket. Qantas on the phone weren't really prepared to dig into it until 7 weeks is up, even though it doesn't make sense it has been 'half' processed. However, you'll hear different things from one operator to another. I've read accounts on AFF where people call up and the operator basically 'pushes' it through for them on the phone.

  • I've just cancelled my booking to tas over the phone this morning. Purchased with points/cash.

They informed me they are not crediting flights booked to tas with rewards and just refunding in full.

So try giving them a call. Qantas now gives the option for a call back instead of holding on the line. They called me back within an hour.

    • Wait time 2 Hours … think calling is not on the agenda.

      • Like I said, they now have a call back feature. You don't have to hold.

However if you prefer to never receive a response via email/Twitter/FB, just do that 😉

  • I had an international flight booked and paid using points + pay with Qantas. I first called qantas back in March before international flights were cancelled and they were offering credit for 12 months from booking date. I was specifically told that (at that point in time) there was no reimbursement of points if I opted for credit. The points could only be reimbursed if I cancelled (with applicable fee). So unless they specifically told you your points would be reimbursed I wouldn't expect your points back.

  • Update: After harassing them on Facebook, and email, I finally got also my point reimbursed.
