Montana Chardonnay 2008 - Approx $6.66 Pb Delivered - $39.94 for 6 (Save $64) @GraysOnline

60

Montana Wines from NZ normally produce more than acceptable white wines. This one is a little aged (2008)for an unwooded chardonnay - but the consumer reviews on the Grays site (19 of them) are very positive - 4.4 stars out of 5. Sold in boxes of 6 - Buy Now, not an auction.

This wine was discussed some 12 months ago on OzBargain - it has been considerably reduced in price since then - Grays are obviously quiting remaining stock because of its age - and a branding/label change (thanks Mason)!

Postage is $10 per box of six to most capital cities. Please check the Delivery Calculator on the purchase page for confirmed deivery rates to your postcode.

$4.99 per bottle (plus delivery) for a well rated NZ Chardonnay from a reputable producer seems a bargain to me.

This wine is big in the UK market, but the only Australian price I can find on-line list it at $17.33 per bottle - http://www.theglass.com.au/Buy/Montana-Classic-Range-Gisborn… .

  • I've tried this wine and liked it. I think it's usually in the $12 - $15 price range at the bottle-o's.

  • Do not shop with Graysonline for wine.

They won't accept returns after their 30 day money back period.

Reputable wine sellers will accept returns if the wine has a fault, say 12 months later.

Check Graysonlines sellers page. It tells you that their service is for clearing excess stock, end of lines, etc.

    Basically they sell rubbish.

    • Thanks for your comments, tw.

Don't quite agree that Grays only sell rubbish. I have purchased over 200 dozen bottles from them in the past three years - mostly from their auction site - for myself, friends and associates. I would rate about 75% of what I have purchased very good value wine for the price, 15% just OK and 10% rubbish.

They have always been good with any returns I have made - admittedly within their T&C's. If you have just a little knowledgs of wines, regions, etc you can shop very well there - especially if you combine with friends and buy in multiple dozens, and are patient with your bidding.

I have also found the buyer comments/ratings - once there's more than two or three reviews to be a good indicator to quality and value.

      • Fair comment. Just speaking from my experience.

10% rubbish is still quite a high rate……

  • +1

Good price for Montana. They are now known as Brancott Estate(2010), thats why you wont find them any more.

    • Thanks Mason - that probably explains this pricing - the name change is likely the reason this stuff is being quit through Grays - they won't want their old label on the retail shelves.

  • Montana Sauvignon Blanc is their flagship wine and sells for $10 on special in Oz.

Nearly $7 for end of line stock isn't that good considering white wine doesn't keep well and this is 2008 vintage.

And do you think it has been kept in good conditions as it has been shunted from maker to distributer to retailer to graysonline?

    • +1 for the Montana Sav Blanc. Very good drop.
