    When were the beans roasted?

    • Hey there, everything is roasted to order except the Dig Deeper. That was roasted late last week.

  • $79.70 for 1kg Ethiopian including postage, ridiculous price.

    • +2

My apologies, forgot to update the prices of our singles. Please give me a sec.

      • These should all now be correct.

I haven’t seen Cartel Coffee this cheap since my first visit in 2011 in Breakwater, Geelong!
The stuff that Nathan sources is wild to say the least.

    • +1

Nathan and the team are legends! I might even get some of the Premium Gesha in next time 🤔🤞

    Thanks OP! Ordered 👍

    • Thanks for ordering! Tell your family and friends and enjoy :)

    Are these any good?
Coincidentally I am on my last pouch

    • These are all specialty grade coffees. What are you currently drinking?

      • My last three purchases were from Campos, Toby's and Beanbay.

Both me and missus have been pleasantly surprised with Beanbay

        • Awesome! Do you know what the name of the blends/single origins were? I'll try and match you to something that you'll like :)

    Hi Tim,

Have you got a bit more info about the Cartel Coffee Hermanos Blend? The description on the page is a tad short and I can't seem to google any more info about this one.

Also, any plans on doing deals for the single origins?

    Thanks!

    • Sure thing, I'll get some more info on the Hermanos blend tomorrow.

All the coupon codes work for the single origins as well ;)

      • Hey there,

From the roaster: Hermanos is a 50/50 blend of Honduras washed and Colombia washed. It's the most straight forward blend we roast and is designed for milk. Clean sweet notes of chocolate and malt.

I've also updated the description in the product description to reflect this.

Let me know if you'd like some more info?

        Cheers,
        Tim

        • Awesome stuff. Thanks, Tim! I placed an order today.

I can't have the Cartel blend ground for espresso machine? It says whole beans so I'm just double checking if they would grind for me.

Still looking around for a decent grinder that won't cost a fortune and make my wife upset lol.

    Thanks op.

    • +2

      Hi Wazzza,

I don't publicise it but I'm more than happy to grind a bag a for you.

However, I'd keep an eye out for the Breville Smart grinder when it goes on sale. A great value for money home option 👍

      Cheers,
      Tim

      • Thanks that's awesome I just placed my order.

Can you suggest any of these for cold brew?

    • Hi there, Sure thing! What kind of flavours do you normally enjoy in cold brew?

  • +1

    Thanks. Ordered HERMANOS and Grandmaster.

    • Amazing, thanks BigSim!

    hi Tim,

Who roasts the dig deeper blend? Is it outsourced to one of the big roasteries or done small scale, and if so is it air roasted or drum roasted? Just curious that is all. :)

    • Hey there, it's roasted small scale by a local roastery. I'll check what kind of roaster they use. I suspect it's a drum roaster, but I'll let you know!

      • Yep, it's a drum roaster! I know, not as precise as an air roaster :'(

Hi rep. I usually like small batch Candyman. Any recommendations from your list?

    • +1

Hey there, Candyman is such a tasty blend! Do you normally have it black or with milk?

      • +1

With milk. Yeah Candyman is beautiful. Cannot get it at a reasonable price since the lockdown.
        18g coffee, about a 30ml shot and 100ml milk

        • +1

Ahh that sucks, how much do you normally pay for it? Nice punchy recipe, I like that.

  • +1

Do any of the cartel 1kg bags go well in a Chemex? Or are they espresso only?

    • Hey there, The sweeter blends like Sugar Hill and Grand Master would be ok. However, I'd strongly lean towards a single origin. But that's just me :)

      • +1

Thanks mate. I normally get the Lemongo. Live in Geelong so head into the brew bar occasionally. $25 for about 400g in their refill jars. But going through a lot of coffee at the moment, and not going into town much. So I can get 1kg bags from Padre also.

        • +1

Love a good coffee from Yirgacheffe! I've currently got Muhaba in my Cartel refill jar.

I've had a chat to the guys in the warehouse. We won't have the Lemongo for a few weeks, they've got a few other Ethiopian lots they want to cycle through first.

  • +1

Thanks, ordered Cartel Roasters - Chief Rocker Blend 1KG Whole Beans, this is my first time to try Cartel coffee.

    • Thanks! How do you normally make your coffee?

      • I have a small coffee machine: Breville the Barista Express BES870 at home, I generally I make 3 coffees per day for my family and normally buy coffee beans from supermarket, Grinders or Lavazza ORO, when they are on sale. I have this coffee for 2 weeks, great taste. Cheers.

  • +1

Any tips on storing excess coffee beans? i normally go through 250g a week and find the taste starts to go off 1 week after opening the bag

    • Hey there, Do you buy your beans ground or whole?

      • +1

        Hi,

I have this issue too. I buy my beans whole/ungrounded

        • Ideally, I wouldn't buy coffee in bulk as it doesn't keep very well.

However, one method I have seen work well is vacuum sealing 14-21g portions and freezing them. The question is whether the bulk buy saving offsets the cost of vacuum seals.

Edit: I should add that I'd only recommend this freezing idea for whole beans.

Thanks OP ordered a KG bag

    • Thanks Kah

      • When will these be posted? I’m running out and hoped these would be shipped by now.

        • Hi Kah, are you able to send me your order number so I can check?

          • @Realdee: Arrived today, thanks timdee. One small feedback is that there was no roasting date on the bag. Most people don't care, but some do. Cheers

            • +1

@Kah: Thanks for the feedback. I'll make sure that all our bags have a roast date in the future!

  • Hi OP, I ordered 2 x 1kg form your recent deal, however only 1 x 1kg bag arrived (today).
Have sent you a message via your website.

    • +1

Tim just contacted me and sorted it out, all good :)

      • +1

        Thanks rbaggio for your understanding.

  • Im still waiting on 2kg to brisbane from last deal, can probably only blame myself expecting it to be here faster. Ordered on the 5th of April. SH7HCR

    • +1

beans just arrived, now to test :)

bagged up most and put in freezer given age already is this the best method to keep fresh?

and are the full unopen bags okay to put straight in freezer?

      • Look forward to hearing what you think!

I haven't tried that, so I can't recommend it. However, I have heard it working well for others.

        • Timdee please do not edit old deals with new titles. Once you have posted a deal and set the price, it should stay as-is. If you have increased the prices of your products the deal is considered expired — use the Expire button. A price increase of $21/kg to $30/kg is significant.

Same goes for this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/528400/revisions#1104793vs…, there was a significant change in the product being offered. Please post a new deal when your old offer is no longer available or has been renewed with new products or terms.

          Thanks and regards

          • @scrimshaw: Thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure to do that in the future.

  • Still waiting on my beans. How long does delivery normally take?

    • Hey there, what's your order number?

      • ORDER #1077

        • Hi BigSim, I've sent you a reply via email

          • @Realdee: Haven't seen an email come through yet.

            • +1

              @BigSim: Hmm that's strange, I've just resent it :)
