Getting into fitness, would like to buy a treadmill.

Hey team,

I'm starting to get into fitness and would like to do it from home as much as possible. Wondering if anyone knows of any decent treadamills.

Obviously cheaper is better, but am happy to spend a bit more on something that doesn't feel janky.

Thanks in advance :)

Honestly, treadmills are shit, go outside. You get fit and you discover your neighbourhood. Download a running app a d track your progress.

*when youre inside you dont get the cooling effect from running so you heat up more, unless you get a fan youll feel it. No issues outside.

If you have room for a treadmill buy a rower instead. Go out and walk around the block etc for the walk, the rower will give you more of a full body workout. Combine it a jump rope and calisthenics. Throw in some kettle bells as well and you'll have everything you need.

I would say the main thing is, go with a wide belt of 45cm+ as that doesn't make it feel like you are modelling down a fashion show…

Everything else is pretty stock-standard, give the treadmills a try if you can, as some underpowered ones will have an effect of pausing for a split second with each step and this can get annoying. CHP (continuous Horse Power) needs to be 2.5 or above, which most are, even at the low end.

Bad news is that all those permanently half-price Rebel Sport treadmills are now full price and there doesn't seem many deals about.

Treadmills are up there next to guitars as being one of the most neglected purchases by majority of users. So you might regret it. Kind of like many house buyers who look for a swimming pool, also gets hardly used, keeps wasting money, becomes a chore to maintain, and ultimately gets neglected.

…so do you really need a treadmill ??

I agree with the others here, treadmills make no sense in Australia. In places where it snows for months, fair enough. But unless you live in the ski fields, just go for a run outside and keep the money in your pocket.

  • I converted my swimming pool to lawn. But I still like running on treadmill. I can run anytime, run naked, watch Netflix. Lifespan on eBay is cheap and good enough, I bought mine with 20% off.

    • Don't run naked!

The belt will give your feet blisters for sure.

      • Haha I do wear shoes, so not completely naked

  • I would have to agree with every 1 I used to use treadmills on and of. Outside is tons better it's so interesting learning your area. I walk in bike tracks.

Buy 2nd hand, these things get used 5 times then gather dust.

    • Got mine from council cleanup.

I could never lose weight using a treadmill and found I was getting to much impact so switched over to Expresso which is an interactive bike and lost heaps of weight. Now that the gyms are closed i am considering buying the Zwift Bike system to take the boredom out of exercising. Personally if I was just starting out on fitness i would get a bike and a bike trainer roller set up so you can use the bike both inside or out and it also is a lot more portable and compact. https://zwift.com/video/how-to-cycling

Congratulations, a Great decision to invest in a Cardio fitness lifestyle.
When looking around keep the obvious in mind:
    wider & longer better
    motor & speeds
    Heart rate monitoring
    Auto programs - blue tooth
    Servicing & spare parts
Over time you will need to keep clean, adjust & lube the belt & main platform.
Treadmills can be quite heavy and even though some are on wheels can be awkward to move.
Aldi's 60 day money back guarantee gets my tick, you may have to head office/ring around.
EBay may be worth a look.
Is short term hiring an option.

Good Luck and do follow professional advice including your own GP.
    IMHO

I rented some gym gear from a gym, they don't need it atm and it gives them a bit of extra cash coming in to keep the business afloat.
