Careline Care Touch Instant Hand Sanitiser 400ml $14 @ Woolworths (in Selected Stores at the Service Desk Only)

270

Just went to Woolworths and found a few hand sanitisers available behind the service desk (belongs to the C&C desk).

A lady suggested to ring the store first to find out if there is any stock left. (It's not on the shelf, only stored at the service desk.)

It's available Australia wide but in selected stores only.

Woolworths has it in 100ml for $5 and 200ml for $8 as well.

I like the picture. Looks like they’re displaying a bottle of fine wine and waiting for you to give a pretentious nod.

You sound very familiar with the nuances of the pantomime.

(nodding) Why yes, I like this sanitser. It tastes a bit oaky with a hint of fruit.

      • +1

        Bit of an oaky afterbirth

        • … what was that?

    • +9

Well it technically has alcohol so the gesture is relevant

lol - all that is missing is the white napkin!

Perhaps the Woolies worker is ex-hospitality staff who had to pivot due to 'Rona ?

On that note, they should start putting the dimple/punt in the bottom of hand sanitiser bottles

I can buy salmon for cheaper

How much is a bar of soap and running tap water?

    • +11

Fair point, but it’s hard to keep running water in a car…

      • +13

So only take the car out when it's raining?

          Up there for thinking

I made the mistake of travelling an hour to a Woolworths that was displaying stock of this last week when someone posted this bargain: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/528509

They told me that they hadn’t had stock of this in over a month, I called the national line and they promised me they would call me back - never did. A couple of hours wasted so just a heads up to call the store before going in as YMMV with what is online.

I didn’t as I got there at 7am (so left before it opened to get there when the shutters came up).

    • The 'Rona's got you real scared eh?

    • I think you will find that availability will really come in line. Lots if distilleries are coming online with making this.

So glad I stocked up with more than 2 litres of sanitizer before things really kicked off. Still got about 2.0 litres left.

      • +5

Good preservation. I wish you luck having 2.00 litres left next month

      • same …. i tend to use soap and water more than sanitizer …. also removes dirt ….. do people still wash hands before eating or after going to toilet or just use sanitizer nowadays ?

        • I only use sanitizer when I am out. I have a little bottle in the car which I refill from my larger one. And seeing as you only use around 3ml each time , my stash should last a while. Occasionally I will use it at home but only 1% of the time.

You do know that the shorthand for Woolworths is Woolies and not WWS? No one (except you) refers to it as WWS.

Can anyone confirm if Digger Methylated Spirits can be used to create home made sanitizer?

    • Not safe at all.

    • Also can anyone recommend any good mixers for Digger Metho?

    • -1

      Yes
Australian guidelines stipulate no methanol in "methylated spirits" for many years.
They use bittering agents at very low proportions to prevent people from drinking it.

Edit as xuqi stated above it's ethanol now. Totally safe.

    • Metho, despite its name, has not been methylated (i.e. has the addition of methanol) for a long time. It will almost always contain a bittering agent (e.g. bitrex) at less than 2%. Metho can also contain water, not more than 5%. So assume about 95%+ ethanol when figuring out your recipe.

      • any suggested recipe?

    • +1

This is the exact one I am referring to:
      https://diggersaustralia.com.au/product/diggers-methylated-s…

      • looks like it's the same one that Xuqi mentioned
Hence, it should be 95% Ethanol and 5% Demineralized water

    • Good question, I wondered the same thing. I asked a pharmacist and he mentioned that the standard methylated spirits may have impurities that could be toxic. I was more wondering whether the additives that make it "methylated" would be toxic if put on the skin. On researching this I found that methanol isn't usually used these days since other chemicals are added to make it too bitter to drink, they probably didn't want to kill people as much as in the old days. Also a number of different chemicals could be used. Unfortanately the product safety sheet for Diggers only mentions that there is ethanol in it.

      Anyone else got an answer?

  • sneaky bastards… this is probably some sort of consignment marketing approach…
