  • The original break and chip resistant glass dinnerware

Ah yes, the original "these plates don't break unless they do".
I think there must be two different types or they are now produced at a lower quality.

Because some Corelle stuff breaks so easily these days.

    • Mine works very well. Though the last of my bowls was, probably, bought 5 years ago.

Yes we get the same crap as America that explodes in multiple shard's rather than break into two or three pieces. Europe still gets the original product which is made out of a totally different material.

    • We had ours for just under 8 years. This last year they are all chiping (80% have some sort of chip? and 2 bowls have shattered. Not sure if that was supposed to happen.

I still have very old Corelle plates from over 20 years ago. Very thin yet they've survived a number of falls. My only problem now is they look dated, so I'm looking to replace. Like all things I'm not expecting the new ones to withstand the same conditions.

      • Same. Probably just under 20 years for me, but the edges are all peeling off (like the glaze is coming off) or something like that.
Might be due to the washwasher running at the hottest every single day…

Given all these comments in these threads I might just buy the 70c ikea ones and replace them as required…

Still $59 on the site for me.

I've been using the Ikea $0.69 plates and bowls for 18 months. They are very good quality. None of them has chipped or cracked yet.

    • Same, used them for 3 years, no chip or crack yet. They are made in France.

      • +1

Where did you get the French ones?

Oh you mean the Ikea ones.

    • We've been using the basic Kmart dinnerware for ~7 years - still going strong.

      • I'm thinking Kmart next time around too.

    • All my ikea bowls have chips, they are about 3 years old. Can't complain given the price.

I got old corelle ones which are going strong for 15 years. I think they were the "original" before they switched to a cheaper manufacturing process.

    • Mine shattered to pieces by my toddler.

    • I just bought some of these today… they seem pretty good quality, and amazing value.

    • All our plates and bowls are Ikea. They have chipped and scratched like there's no tomorrow, probably about 3-5yrs old. Every plate has at least 4-5 chips. And they are the creamy white colour, normal form and knife marks are so widespread, the tops are now a pale grey. Definitely not going to buy more.

Now that we have 2 kids under 5, we're happy not to have expensive stuff though.

The worst thing is they get stupidly hot in the microwave while the food on top stays cold and starts searing on the hot plate.

    • Yeah stuff Corelle overpriced crap. Only the old Corelle are good

    • The issue with the Ikea ones is they are small.

The plates are small, the bowls don't hold much.

They are also thin and feel cheaper than the Corelles.

Not biased. I own both the Corelles and Ikea glass plates. Use Corelle daily, and pull out the Ikea ones for parties.

Purchases 30 of each (ikea) size/type, cheap as chips and better for the environment than disposable paper/plastic.

    • They are selling $1.49 now

I bought them for $0.69 as well

I lost interest in this products after failing yo buy about a year ago. I ordered online and later it had gone nowhere…

    • +4

      It's been a year, move on :)

  • All been chipping says who that they don't break?

    • +6

      Yoda is that you?

  • +1

These bowls and plates aren't unbreakable. I had 2x bowls and 2x large plates broken into many pieces. I rather buy those cheap IKEA bowls and plates for as low as 70c each.

  • +4

    No deal for me.

I love chips & no one gonna tell me I can't put them on a plate or in a bowl

  • Got these a while back, the 4 mugs are made in China and noticeably poorer quality (one chipped already), worth keeping in mind.

  • like you are going to invite people over for dinner

  • When I visited Korea I found better design and shape with cheaper price tag of this brand. They are not a set and I can make a set with my favorite. That's why I lost interest with this set.

    • If you want to look at a whole bunch of different Corelle designs it is worth looking at their DFO stores. They also have OXO brand, Pyrex, some mice heavy duty bakeware and the Instantpots in all three sizes. Not sure if they are still open, at the moment.

  • Ok for camping in style.
No real fun in a DV where they take so much more of an effort to shatter.
