2kg Blend Coffee Beans $36 Delivered ($18/kg) @ Crave Coffee

550

Got served a Facebook ad from Crave Coffee. Seems they used to post deals here about 7 years ago.

You need to order 2 and then it will take the price of 1 off. Don't just order 1.

Beans are freshly roasted and can be shipped for free or pickup in Alexandria, NSW.

A clean, balanced blend perfect as your morning coffee or as an accompaniment to chocolate, pastries and deserts. Created from Pacific and Central American beans this blend produces sweet, chocolaty espressos that integrate perfectly with milk, while its pleasant bitterness serves to create a cocoa like essence to balance the richness of sweet foods.

From 7 years ago was good and capsules.

I've been buying Crave for years.

      KA is a nice flavour.
Espresso is actually pretty good with milk also.
X Blend is best as a short black to my taste.

      Highly recommended.

  • +1

Suspiciously their standard Espresso Blend comes in a nice bag and is $2 per kg cheaper where as this Blend X is in a cheap unbranded bag? Something tells me that this is either always buy 1 get 1 free or a lot cheaper than $36 per kg.

Or it's just a photo of a bag.

What is more likely is that it's a blend that was sold to cafes and restaurants, then this virus thing came along and basically wiped out the restaurant industry in Australia so they're unloading stock at a discount rate.

    • It's always the same price.

This is normally sold to wholesalers or if you know what to ask for ;)

They also do an organic which is in an unbranded bag (other than batch numbers on bottom)

  • Thanks op grabbed some.

  • +2

Happy to give it a go. Getting through a lot of coffee right now

  • I mean, got to be shit right

    • Can't be any worse than instant coffee.

      • Tru dat

      • Rubra for $10 was worse than International Roast.

        • +1

Yeah that was a fail. I think they rushed the process to supply everyone. Ended up with aroma notes of 'burnt ass' and 'dog food'.

  • FWIW, looks like the deal was first posted on their Facebook on 2 April, mentioning that these beans were excess beans that had been roasted and originally destined for wholesale. So likely these would have been roasted earlier than that - at the absolute best, these will be two weeks old from roast date, if not more.

Would be good if they clarified the exact roast date - someone has already asked the question on Facebook.

But the price is cheap, and it sounds like they are at least a somewhat reputable roaster.

If only the ad got served at the time they originally posted the deal! (Assuming that was close to roast date) :)

    • +1

For anyone else interested, they just replied on Facebook confirming beans were roasted 2 weeks ago.

Not bad if you can vacuum pack and freeze extra beans upon delivery

  • Never tried this before. But for $18/kg, happy to give them a try.

  • this blend produces sweet, chocolaty espressos that integrate perfectly with milk, while its pleasant bitterness serves to create a cocoa like essence to balance the richness of sweet foods.

OMG not a single mention of a fruit! I'm there!

OMG cacao is not a fruit!?!? LoL

haha ok ok smart ass :P.
A nice flavour description without try-hard hipster citrusy tutti-frutti flavours

        • i love how even the coles $12/kg beans have the "flavour profile" spider chart. c'mon lads, no-one's playing $12/kg and checking the "flavour profile".

    CRAVE10 for another 10% off
(Or CRAVE05 for 5%, small business and all that)

  • If you want one bag of beans and one bug of a specific grind, you can add each selection separately.

    • which bug you reco?

      • +2

        Moreton Bay.

      • I actually saw the typo but left it there for laughs

  • Damn, I ordered only one

    • I did the same. That's why I wrote to order 2 in bold. I emailed them right after with no answer but hopefully common sense will prevail and will get 2.

      • Made the same mistake. They responded this morning saying I'd still get the 2KGs.

        • Was it through email? Didn't get anything back from them.

          • @neil: I had to login on the website to see their response.

            • @stonieee888: Hmm, ok nothing there. I've just sent a message through "My Account" on their website. Hopefully that should work.

  • OK. Worth a try. But to the poster above - don't freeze your beans.

    • How do you store them?

  • I'd advise to leave the unopened bag in a cupboard for storage. I get through a kilo pretty quickly so I wouldn't be holding on to them for too long. I used to freeze but was strongly advised to avoid this for coffee. A cupboard is OK. Once I open the bag I reseal and push the air out of it, and place it into an airtight(ish) plastic container. I add about 3 days (max) of coffee beans to my grinder, but some say even that is too many. They will add only enough for their next cup.

Freezing beans is a somewhat controversial/much debated topic amongst coffee enthusiasts and I guess there hasn't been a definitive answer.

A more common consensus nowadays is freezing does work provided you can ensure they are in a vacuum container prior to freezing + the freezer is set cold enough. You also want to freeze in batches so you aren't constantly defrosting the beans. What you never want to do is just throw your bag of coffee in the freezer and pull it in and out daily to make a coffee or two. This will definitely ruin the beans.

I find for myself freezing does work and have experimented freezing beans at 7/14/21days past roast dates to see if much flavour gets lost. Note, I always vacuum pack my beans in 500g batches prior to freezing which is a little extreme but ensures beans won't get wet from moisture.

James Hoffman (Former WBC Champion and coffee expert) recently discussed this on his YouTube channel and gives a pretty good explanation of how to do it properly.

Worth a watch if you are interested. Actually, all his content is very well worth a watch for anyone with a passion for coffee.

Give it a go! Hopefully this helps! Also, if you can get through the beans in 2/3weeks then keeping them in the dark in a cupboard as mentioned by Samsquanch is complete fine and you don't have to go through the hassle of vacuum packing and freezing!

  • When does this get shipped out?

    • +1

Got notification of parcel ready to ship within 1 day, should be sent out Thursday.

      • I ordered yesterday. Order is still showing "Awaiting shipment"

        • Still awaiting as well despite consignment assigned.

  • I got a 'Breville Barista Express Espresso Machine' recently and I am still new to making coffee at home. So far tried only 2 packs of beans from a local store.
I like my coffee with milk and prefer to have it strong.
The offere is so tempting but not sure which one to take.
Can anyone suggest me which the best option to try.

Expresso Blend, Blend X, K.A Blend, Organic Blend. Not sure the difference between each of these.
Also, every type has four options Beans, Percolator, Plunger and Expresso Machine. Again what is the difference.

    Thanks in Advance.

    • +1

The 2-for-1 sale only applies to the Blend X. So that’s an easy way to choose! :)

The options are whether you want whole beans, or whether you want them to be pre-ground for you (with the choice of grind size, to suit percolator, plunger or espresso). You want beans. :)

      • Thank you Caprimulgus.

Which one is the best for my machine?
Beans or Expresso Machine? What is the difference between these two?

Sorry, but I just want to get the right one.

        • +1

Your machine has a grinder, so you definitely want whole beans! Better to grind the beans fresh as you need them, as they will taste much better than coffee that has been pre-ground, which will go stale fast.

          • @caprimulgus: Thank you so much again.
            That was really helpful.
Will go with BlendX in BEANS.

Hope this Cravecoffee tastes good. 😀

Got the coffee today. Roasted on 20/3. Haven't tried it yet.

    • I'm sure the beans are still great but that is quite some time ago for 'freshly' roasted beans.

      • +2

Yep. was cheap for a reason. But I wanted to support them as well.

        • Let us know what they're like :)

          • @Phreaker: Beans are ok. Blend is not as full bodied as I would like.

  • Received my batch today (18/04), roasted on 16/04!

    • Oh wow! that's great! When did you put your order in?

Let us know how it tastes when you try it.

    • Was it plain package as per picture or with their logo?

    • +1

Ordered on the 15th, so very impressed by how quickly they delivered
Arrived in a proper bag with branding rather than plain package.

Going through a few different methods (pourover + a bajillion aeropress methods) and so far pretty tasty

  • Anyone who ordered can report on the roast date they got, and how the coffee tastes?

  • Got mine too . Very quick delivery . Roasted on 20/3 also . Happy to support them too . Just finishing my other beans first !

    • When did you put your order in?
Was it plain package as per picture or with their logo?

  • I ordered on wed 15th and got it delivered on the Saturday morning by a courier ! Yes , 2 plain packages and a Crave fridge magnet !
    Cheers

    • What was the roast date on yours? How are the beans, do you like them?

  • +1

roast date 20/3 . I'm just finishing off some other beans sorry. I don't think anyone has posted a review of the beans yet which is what everyone is waiting for.

  • +2

Awww, no fridge magnet for me :'(

I also ordered on 15/4, arrived today in Melbourne after notification of a delay from the courier.

Roasted 20/03, so 1 month old, but still tastes pretty good.

  • +2

I just received mine today. I ordered the beans version of this.
Not sure on taste, at my office I’ve used aromas coffee before and taste a lot stronger than this one.
    Mine roasted in 20/3

  • Seems to be expired now, charges full price for two at the checkout.

  • Got lucky with mine, beans roasted 20/4. I opted to pay via bank transfer, so suspect they ran out of the original offer and fulfilled orders using recently roasted stock

  • Got mine - Roasted 16/04/2020. Took 6 days for delivery though, even though they dispatched same day. Nearly a week from one Sydney suburb to another … I've had stuff arrive from China in that time. Note: that was all Australia Post's fault, not Crave.

  • Got mine today. dispatch/postage was slow, but roast date was about 5 days ago, so all in all, happy with the outcome.
