Controller Options for 4 Player Nintendo Switch Games?

Hi all. I'm new to Switch. If I want to play 4 player Mario Kart etc am I best off getting another pair of joy cons, or should I get a pair of full wireless controllers instead? If it's the latter, will any compatible wireless controller do, eg https://www.bigw.com.au/product/nintendo-switch-wireless-con…?

thanks

  • If you want to play Mario Kart 8 with motion, then get the Joy-Cons (A pair of Joy-Cons will count as 2 controllers for Mario Kart).

If you just want to move with the Joy Stick, then you can use a Wireless Controller (Personally I would recommend the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller).

The Wireless Controller you linked isn't first party (Manufactured by PowerA, Officially Licensed by Nintendo)

Note: Some games are Joy-Con Only such as Mario Party.

  • Depends on the games you want to play.
Cheapest might be to buy one more pair of Joy-Cons to make 4 controllers total (easy if small hands).
Other options include third party controllers and Gamecube-style controllers. You may lose some controller features going cheap, though.
EB have a sale on some Switch controllers at the moment: https://www.ebgames.com.au/search?promotion=Nintendo+Switch+…

  • I think you're better off buying a standalone controller and maybe a cheapo one. That'll net you four controllers and would cost around the same.

I find the joycons do have a bit of wiggle. I have the 8bitdo sn30 pro+ which works great, only downsides are that it can't wake the switch (the pro controller can but it doesn't have triggers) and that the price has gone up to around $80 from $60.

  • Thanks guys. I'll check out those options.
