Car Accident: Not at Fault + RACV Comprehensive, Old for New Car Replacement Insurance

The car is a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe (MY19 HIGHLANDER ,22 LITRE Turbo Diesel , Auto). The other party has suggested buying the car from us rather than going through their insurance company. For once, my wife was nowhere near when the accident occured. What would you say is a fair price for it?

Obligatory ms paint drawing of the accident. We don't want the car back.

Cheers,
JJB

Man, how much sh!t goes down in your life?

old for new car replacement Insurance

Isn't this only for the first 12 months with RACV?

    • yeah you must be only reg owner and it has to have been registered 12m ago or less.

      • 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

Unless it was registered old stock then might be pushing it.

    • Man, how much sh!t goes down in your life?

I've always thought it was within the modal range.

Isn't this only for the first 12 months with RACV?

      Hers says 2 years.

      • Then claim it through your insurance and get a new car.

Rather not. Not the first car she's totalled.

@[Deactivated]: LWTAF. That is why you have insurance.

            • @Muzeeb: We don't actually need a 2nd car at the moment since we are both working from home and the kids are being home-schooled. What will we do with a brand new car?

              • @[Deactivated]: Sell it, then put it all on black.

                • @brendanm: My thoughts , exactly! Sell it for how much, though?

                  • +1

@[Deactivated]: $46-50k according to Redbook. If you get $50k you'll be considered a high roller at the crown apparently 👍

                    • @brendanm: He's offered $57k. Might as well take the money considering we don't need a 2nd car at the moment. Cheers!

            So?

            Car Accident: Not at Fault

The claim will have no effect on her insurance premiums or history. Claim, get new car, sell new car. Simple.

Hell, most dealers will even offer you a cash price if you wanna sell it before picking it up.

Well, it would be a simple decision, if we didn't need to consult the brains trust of OzB every time

            • @spackbace: Would you rather a new car in 1- 2 months' time rather than cold , hard cash now?

              Edit:

Hell, most dealers will even offer you a cash price if you wanna sell it before picking it up.

TIL something new. Had no idea you could do that.

        Even better …deeper pockets 😃

        • He's actually been great and has even offered my wife the use of one of his cars while we get this sorted.

          • @[Deactivated]: As he should!

Any interesting cars in his fleet worthy of a swap?

            • @[Deactivated]: He offered her the use of his F-pace, 25t R-sport. I've also seen him driving a panamera. Not sure what else is in his fleet as my wife was visibly upset and we left rather quickly. She loved her Hyundai :(

Like I said, we don't need a 2nd car, so we didn't take the offer. My car is barely getting any use as is.

              • @[Deactivated]:

                panamera

If it's a Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo then definitely ask to borrow it. I'm free to joy ride with you.

              • @[Deactivated]: It would be nice to take out either car for a spin. to the store for essential groceries.

            • @[Deactivated]: Ps: just remembered the conversation we had the other day. Kind of wished the accident had happened to me instead. I love my car but I would have loved a newer version of it so much more : D

    Another day, another JJB thread…….

Beginning to think OP works for Womans Day or similar rags, just the sheer number of stories posted, whether real or not, and each of them has quite a bit of details put in.
As in they have access to "stories" from 10+ years and just mix and match the details and persons involved.

OP can probably put in a convincing story when pulled over by the cops. On another note, has that happened? :P

  • If they want to buy the car from you then you name the price, if they don't like it then tell them you're going through their insurance.

  • Is there an actual question that you need help with?

    • +1

What would you say is a fair price for it?

      • +1

Ahh my bad. How much did you pay for it originally? Take between 10-20% off that.

        • -1

Me? $0 :) My wife buys her own car.

She paid $60k for it and the other party has offered $57k. Sounds like a done deal.

          • +5

@[Deactivated]: Take it before they change their mind… if they even stall one tiny bit, put it through your insurance as a “not at fault” claim…

            • @pegaxs: Just to confirm , the car will have to be sold as unregistered, right?

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Might be hard to drive it around in that condition. Just take the plates off it when you sell it and cash the remainder of the rego back in.

                • @pegaxs: Got a call from his solicitor this morning to ask us to provide the RWC for the vehicle but it's all sorted now.

  • +2

Take the deal. You wont get a new for old car from insurance, unless it is a write off.
They can repair a lot of car for 50k and they are still in front.

  • +1

    $57k better take the offer.

  • MS Paint with 3D effect.

    • You should have flipped the image. These cars are parked on the wrong side of the road, steering wheel is on the wrong side and centre lines are yellow, not white…

    • 3d effect pre-accident

The person pictured is not my wife.

      • Show us how it looks now. I want to see some carnage.

        • He bought the car and the post-accident photos. It is his car now and you could see his front yard in all the photos. We were asked by his solicitor to delete them.

Tbh, it didn't look as bad as the white car above. Maybe it is repairable? Glad we took the cash instead of going through insurance.
