  • Is that the same company who make the insecticide and weed killers?

If so, likely industrial strength quality stuff

    • I don’t think so. It’s a baby supplier company.

        Ah ok, thanks.

I thought brand names and trademarks were meant to stop that confusion. Silly…..

    Same price at baby buntings

Yes it’s on sale this week so Amazon matched it. Might suit some people that want it delivered.

  • Legit question - whats the difference between using this and diluted bleach solution?

    • Isn’t bleach toxic? I don’t think it’s safe to use on food.

      • +3

Certainly is safe. What do you think chlorine is, in water?

        • +1

Bleach has health risks of its own

"Bleach is not meant to be used to clean any foods or food products. The ingestion of any amount of bleach can be a major health hazard," Sims said.

            @Jumpup: Stop drinking tap water.
            Or swimming in pools.
            Or taking showers.

there's a difference between 900+ml/L youd use for bleaching mould, and the extremely low concenteation you need to wash clothes, clean benches, and kill the covid virus. (Which is 1000ppm, or 0.1% according to the CDC)

      • You're right, not straight bleach…but how about dilute bleach solution for cleaning fruit and veg, and baby products - would that work?

          • -1

@inasero: I’ve got a special bleach solution called Milton to clean baby bottles and it smells like the chlorine water at the pools not like the bleach I buy in the detergent section.
Correct me if I’m wrong but it’s totally different in my experience.

            • @Jumpup: If you're reading the ingredient list, you're wrong.

A lot in the detergent aisles are blends, if you're buying straight bleach, its the same.

Cheapest location is a pool shop

I don't get this recommendation to use bleach. Everything I have read suggests that bleach is inactivated by organic matter - so fruit and vegetables…? You may be better off just using dishwashing liquid.

    https://www.ehss.vt.edu/programs/BIO_disinfect.php

"Bleach is an effective disinfectant but a poor cleaner. When both cleaning and disinfecting are needed, they must be done in a two-step process, where cleaning with a detergent is performed and allowed to completely dry prior to disinfection with bleach. Bleach is a reactive material that can form toxic compounds when mixed with other cleaning chemicals. Therefore do not mix bleach with a cleaner in an attempt to produce a one-step cleaner/disinfectant.
Bleach solutions are inactivated by the presence of organic matter, so physically remove organic material before disinfecting surfaces with bleach.
CDC recommendations for contact time: Wait ≥ 10 minutes after application of bleach solution before wiping nonporous surfaces; wait 30 minutes if immersing in bleach solution."

  • I have an acquaintance that has a story he thinks is hilarious. Although officially a genius and trained in such matters, he claims he used too high of a bleach concentration to sterilise some water container and ended up very ill. 🙄

Nice way to degrade the surfaces of your fruit and vegetables prior to using them?!

      Pigeons aren't vegetables, mate.

Never washed my vegetables and fruit before consuming them and haven’t caught COVID-19 yet! I doubt anyone in the world has caught it this way tbh. Paranoia is out of control amongst you guys!

    • +1

Have you been tested for antibodies? How do you know you weren't or aren't infected? Plenty of people are suspected of being asymptomatic - which is why it's such a prolific spreader.

      • -1

That’s exactly the thing that a paranoid person thinks who has no real perspective on the situation. You have succumbed to fear and panic. Of course take reasonable precautions, but washing all fruits and vegetables with SOAP is ridiculous. Especially when with a lot of fruits you peel them anyway, and you cook most vegetables which kills bacteria/viruses with the high temperatures. It’s paranoia to think that you’re get COVID-19 if you eat an apple that hasn’t been washed with soap FFS

    • They are telling us not to touch door handles but it’s ok for people to pick up apples put them back then we touch them again…

  • +1

No need for bleach use Vinegar.

    • Agree. There is also a citrus based cleaner (in the US at least) that is very good at removing residual wax. I personally just wash everything with hot/warm water.

    • For fruit/veg, or for baby products?

      • Both

    • This is alcohol base formula not bleach
