New Home: Require Washing Machine and Fridge

Hi guys,

I moving into a new rental with no washing machine or fridge.

What would be the cheapest to go? I have looked at JB hifi commercial but wondering if good guys or appliances online can do a deal.

Budget : 500-800 per item but hoping to save as much as I am living on savings while applying for jobs.

I also require sofa, tv stand, side tables and a study table but I may go gumtree on that.

Thank for your help!

Cheers,
Daniel

Physical measurements is a key consideration in getting a proper answer

    • yes i will be going over tomorrow to measure the space that stores the fridge

Can you collect second hand stuff yourself? Even rent a trailer or ute?
Best value is always the people on Gumtree selling their whole house because they are moving interstate/overseas etc. You can offer half what they want if you are taking a bunch of stuff off their hands because it is such a hassle to shift a house full of gear.

When I was on the seller side of this deal, a young couple bought all our baby stuff as we were moving country, and they were so happy to get everything in one hit for peanuts - and it made me feel good to get it all gone in one hit so stuff wasn't wasted/dumped.

    • i'll look at this thanks

    Furniture: Gumtree and Facebook marketplace.
Electronics: check Choice or other review website for good models with long warranty and good reliability. Then use ozbargain and/or staticice for price comparison.

    Good luck

    • thanks!

    • Real oz bargainer :)

  • If you're moving in by yourself then you won't need a huge fridge or washing machine. As others have mentioned, when you're on a tight budget and looking for a white good appliance from a reliable brand, then that will be your best bet. But you won't know if it's had problems in the past and been repaired, or if it's already on its way out. Personally, I prefer to buy anything with moving parts inside brand new.

If you're after a cheap and cheerful washing machine, take a look at this one: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/haier-7kg-front-load-washer-h…

Not a lot of reviews because apparently it's a new model, but I've been looking at washing machines for a while and Haier tends to do alright. They own Fisher and Paykel now too :) Good luck

  • With all the money you will save by not paying rent you should be able to afford a nice fridge and washing machine..

    • unfortunately, I will be paying rent.

  • We got a great deal on a fridge from Harvey Norman’s seconds in Dandenong. Perfect working order , brand new, with a scratch on the rear of the unit for about $500 less than rrp. They delivered. I note they have a Factory store in Epping and an outlet in Bridge Road Richmond. Not sure if they have a web page for these stores. I won’t claim it was the cheapest but it was certainly good value and easy for us.

    • thank you.

  • OP where in Melbourne are u are you based?

    • South Melbourne.
