Sony X8000G 65inch or Sony X8500G 55inch?

I am looking for a good 65 inch or 55 inch TV within my budget of 1300. Have narrowed it to better quality x8500g or bigger size x8000g. But can’t decide between the two. Typical usage is watching netflix, amazon prime and youtube mostly.

The 55 inch retails for 1350 and 65 inch for 1295.

Appreciate your recommendations.

Aside from lock down advice and rules…

Let your eyes do the work. Stats only say so much. Scribble-down what the differences are, and go & view them. You might find you can't see/agree with the differences.

Visit a store, and realise how amazing the quality is - even with dirt cheap models.

Personally, I'm stalking x8500g 85". Salespeople screw their face up, give me the tap on the shoulder to let me know it's a turd model. I highlight my specific needs & how it beats all others at the benchmark price of ~$3100. Based on reviews etc etc. They have nothing to refute it.

I got the x8500g but the 65 inch size when Bing Lee had a black friday sale last year, it does a good job. I hope to get an OLED one day. I'd compare the features between the two models. Screen quality wise, I don't think you'd notice the difference unless the two TVs were side by side. I would go with screen real estate and buy the model below with the bigger screen. In a few years time you could upgrade and prices will probably be more affordable for the bigger models.

Not sure If I notice the picture quality difference as much between the two (I own both, 65") but definitely the processor is much faster and snappier in the X85G which is much appreciated. The remote is easier to navigate on the X85G as well. All things considered in your scenario though I personally prefer screen real estate and would prefer the X80G considering it is 65"

    • Thank you. How about while viewing sports and fast moving action scenes? Are they any different between these two TVs? I have Chromecast, but I am not going to use any apps in the TV except for streaming apps.

  • One thing to consider… Android TV is just awful and Sony's implementation of it seems to make that even worse. Poorly documented and awkward to set up and navigate (and I am a techie kind of person). I couldn't believe some of the ways this software handles basic functions. Super awkward.

Also their support is terrible. We had a small bug somehow get into near the centre of the screen underneath the plastic cover of the actual LCD panel. This sort of thing should not be possible with a properly designed screen. It has never happened with any of the screens I've owned. Sony told me it's a bug infestation and there's nothing they would do about it. Such lack of follow up support for a poorly designed product does not deserve further patronage. I am avoiding any Sony products these days.

  • Go to Costco.
