You need to be a bit more assertive.. like this:

iPhone 11 Pro 512GB - $2135 - got one for each family member. thanks OP

Why did this get downvoted? Best comment on this thread.

Can't see an address or ABN listed - wonder how legit this site is?

    • -8

Why is OzBargain so anal about visiblity of ABN? The domain is registered to Brisbane Airport.

      • +37

Nothing wrong with doing a bit of due diligence by wanting to see some details such as an ABN. Especially when you're dropping 1-2K on a bare website like this.

      • +3

Also maybe for the purposes of TRS - I believe it needs to be an Aussie tax invoice with an ABN and address

        • +6

          Not much TRS happening lately…

    • ABN 54 076 870 650

Down the bottom, "About Us" not sure if they have added it since?

  • On a different topic, how is the Iphone SE convert from $350USD into $750AUD?

    • +4

Good question, although US price starts at $399, so comes to close to $700 AUD when you add GST.

      • +12

Add in the costs of our extra consumer law warranty over the 12m US warranty, a cheeky extra markup and I reckon you've got it covered. Also they have to hedge their bets as they don't adjust the price once launched. Who knows what could happen to USD:AUD in the future..

        • +1

I remember they raising the price In Aus due to a weaker conversion.
Happened once as far as I can remember.

        • Surely AUD can't sink any further? 😀
          Only uphill from here 👍

      • +10

I forgot that USA has that annoying "price not including GST"

        • +2

          Different states, different taxes.

        • I miss 2011 - 2012 where AUD vs USD is roughly 1:1.

          • @netsurfer: You remind me of exchanging all my USD … or maybe I'll put it on revolut

    • Doesn't that normally happen? The new SE is the only new Apple phone I've watched on release, but I've heard friends complain about the "Apple Tax" since about the iPhone 7.

      • I think apple tax refers to for two devices of the same specs, the apple product will always have a markup. Here I was pondering about the conversion rate (The iphone SE is actually 399 and not 349).

That being said, I have a oneplus 5t and an ipad pro 10.5, considering how things are at the moment, if I were to upgrade I don’t think I will go with oneplus even if i have been with them since the oneplus one.

Good prices. Cheaper than Costco too.

  • Just price beat at Officeworks

    • +2

Good tip. I got the iPhone 11 256gb PM at OW just then for $1,259

      • Heaps good! Did you get the normal iPhone or the pro?

  • +3

S20 Ultra. $1633. Good find op

    • Underrated comment

  • +23

I had to double check that the iPhone was actually a bargain…Jesus Christ you can actually get an almost decent car at that price. Two decent laptops, and that's not even max. I remember when phones at 1k were top of the line

    • +3

It totally got out of control, partially because of our dollar worths nothing. I guess the world figured out that we are only good at…erm… … Sunshine and beaches

      • +5

Yeah that's true, dollar is pretty weak but it still does account for the price difference haha. I mean I'm not saying it's a bad thing, they still have cheaper phones like the iPhone se but it's crazy how these phones can reach 2.5k now.

        • +2

I remember when $750 for a base model was still considered expensive, not a "cheaper option" :D

          • +1

@ripprind: I'm 22 but I feel so old! haha yes, I use to upgrade every year up until a few years ago when it just became too much. It seems like if I want 'the best' which is why you upgrade right, to want the newest most advanced stuff, it's bloody expensive!

    • +2

Almost decent car for around $2K? You’d be getting a pretty old manual with high mileage and no RWC in Victoria, for anything around that.

      • Well it's better than an old automatic

      • +3

I remember when I was in highschool I had mates who got cars for like 1.5k or even $500 and they were surprisingly not bad

        • +3

          Ok grandpa

          • @blergmonkeys: haha I like the sound of that

      • +5

No way. There are loads of <200,000km hatches out there, manual or auto. Some damage to the exterior once they're past 10yrs old and you get em for chips.

    • +1

      With or without rwc

    • +5

Mate, where to buy a "decent" car for 2k?

    • +4

The car you can buy for 2 grand is not a status symbol.

You can play the game of pretending to be wealthy, so that people like you, for much less, by buying an iphone.

    • Might be better to give this a miss or buy a second hand 7 if you really need a new handset and start saving up for a 5G version.

    • Even One Plus 8 Pro maxed option, once a flagship killer, now priced U$999. Well it's still under U$1,000 I guess.

    • Two decent laptops

Not if the laptop has an Apple logo on it.

    • Yep I'm with you. What a joke these prices are. Just bought a Xiaomi Mi 9T for $420 and it's bloody top notch. There's always muppets who will pay exorbitant prices though.

  • +1

    Any one with 5G yet?

  • +4

If you want to save some money the iPhone SE with 256Gb capacity is available now for $999, I purchased one last night, I had money to afford a more expensive model but the SE seems at that price point seems like a very good deal. :)

    • -6

      you mean the 8S

  • +5

Wow almost $550 mark up from 64gb to 512gb.

    • +5

Agreed, I don't know how people can justify spending this sort of money on a phone. What are people actually using these things for?

  • +3

Does anyone remember the days when iPhones were nudging up towards $1000 territory, and thinking "wow, could they one day cost more than $1k?"

Thanks in advance for reminiscing with me!

    • +3

We live in a society where people buy brand name water. The lunacy shouldn't surprise you.

      • +1

Don't ya be dissin' my Voss® now, ya hear?

    • It’s only getting worse with flip phones being released at $2500-$3000 Range.. gone are the days used to look forward at upgrading each year, stopped at iPhone 7 will upgrade when needed.. Let the stupids pay these prices & buy it off them 50% less in a year

      • +1

50%? No chance. Especially not Apple, those things hold their value ridiculously well.

  • +3

I can confirm that this website is legitimate. It is an initiative by Brisbane Airport to assist airport retailers who have experienced a significant loss in revenue due to travel restrictions associated with COVID-19.

    See press release: https://newsroom.bne.com.au/new-online-marketplace-an-innova…

    • Whaaat? You can go shopping, exercising, go to work still.

      • I don't think many people are opting to visit the airport for their shopping lol

        • No they won't. Thanks for that fact.

  • +1

I doubt people will be needing their phones much in this current environment of staying home.

    • lol, still using a wall phone?

      • +2

Well people won't need the extra features that an expensive smartphone provides. Are you going to take pictures of the wall with your advanced ultra high res camera?

        • +1

With a wall phone I might!

        • I have been working from home for 27 years, nothing changed here lol, you can leave the house you know, get a dog and take up surfing :)

            @[Deactivated]:

get a dog surfboard and take up surfing :)

            Don't be cruel.

        • Whoah fella! How many years do you think this quarantine will last?

  • fml just bought one with dj gift cards

  • +1

Hmm iPhone 11 Pro 521GB for excellent selfies or a Hyundai Getz to get to work. SUCH a hard choice.

    • +6

You still need a car to get to work? Flannel pjs get me to work these days.

      • +1

You're still wearing clothes? Why bother…

      • Lol

  • Haven't been paying attention to iphones prices for a while but geez 2k lol, no wonder every status conscious people owns one.

    • -2

      goose comment

    • That’s not true. I have the style of a potato and care about status as much as a hole in the head but I upgrade every year because I look after my iPhone, resell it for a small loss and love tech. Definitely don’t need to, but I enjoy doing so. Each to their own.

  • Best bargins are on last years USED XS & XS MAX as its still under APPLE warranty, so you can get it swapped for a refurbished if you have any problem.

    • A bargin is what I need

  • +1

Wow bit by bit, year by year a phone is officially more expensive than a decent laptop and probably equal price to a high km car, kia or huyndai

  • +1

Officeworks have been advised NOT to price match. Apparently because there are no model numbers specified on the website and because there is no contact phone number!?

    • +2

      Any excuse.

      • Seems like it! I asked to be put through to a supervisor but apparently they can't do that as they are working from home!

        I was ready to order 2 x 128Gb iPhone 11s!

        • +6

If there is no supervisor available cause they are at home.. Should have asked to talk to their parents

    • Wow, I feel lucky now. They had no problem matching for me, 128gb iphone 11 for $1110.70 (they added on a small shipping cost, which I had no objection to).

      • Sorry for the stupid question, but did you just call up your local officeworks and ask for a price match by giving them the site to go off by? TIA

        • +1

I got one price match in store in the afternoon it was quick an easy show them the site he looked it up on his phone said will price match, in an out 5 mins had to pay for shipping to, upgrading from 6s plus to 11 128g

        • Called up, confirmed stock and held behind counter. Then went in to price match and pay, about a 5-10 min process.

  • Do people still buy this despite the bad economy? Are they confident or just have too much cash?

    • The current circumstances haven't changed my income level and my daughters need new phones.

      • +1

Can you buy applecare+ or some other insurance (Open to recommendations?) for these iphones after purchase?

  • I mean at least it doesn’t literally coat an arm and a leg

    • +4

Not quite. The Pro Max is quite big though, it will coat your entire hand nicely.

  • +1

This is the time to keep your cash and compromise on whatever you can.
