Medjool Dates (Loose) $14 Per kg (Was $18-$20 Per kg) @ Woolworths

240

Thanks to @Wrathie for updating it here in their Coles post as well.

Clearly not as cheap as the price in the previous years at Woolies and even the price at Coles this year ($12/kg or $55/5kg box) but still a mention-worthy deal, particularly in current times as many people may have easier access to a Woolworths than a Coles store and vice versa.

From experience, this is typically 'once in a year' price due to Ramadan and remains for 2-3 weeks.

Who doesn’t love a loose date?

    • Who knows.. you may want boxed dates. $55/5kg at Coles. ;)

    • Cheer up.. it's not the size that matters.. it's the way you…

It's $12 in Coles. I got some yesterday.

My only concern getting loose dates is people potentially touching them with their hands or worse (spitting but I'd really hope not).

      • You don't have to eat them immediately.. in the worst case, keeping them a day or two before you start eating should be safe (I assume).

The Coles I've been to recently have the entire section pre-bagged into various weights.

        • Wow.. that's a good store then! My local store generally has a plastic tong to pick the dates from the box. Better than touching by hands though.

          • @virhlpool: I've seen it at two stores now, so I assumed it was just a COVID measure being implemented nationally (but I guess not).

          • @virhlpool: Yes. All stores i been always had plastic tong to pick. Coles now have $12/kg and few stores selling the whole 5kg box for $55.

        • My coles has all the nuts and snacks bagged up, but the dates are loose in the boxes with the lids half open. I bought some selected from the back, but I too wonder about airborne contaminants and hands, and I don't think they are a big seller around here either so could be on the floor for a while. No tongs either, I just picked them up with the plastic bag. I washed them with hot water to be safe, they are very nice but would like to see all Coles do pre-bagged portions.

          • @nubzy: I thought the tongs thing was pretty standard at Coles as well as Woolies. That’s what I have been seeing every year. Since they are sticky dates, there has to be something to pick them and put in the plastic bags.
