Regas Inverter to Improve Heating / Cooling

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone knows how much it’ll cost to service an inverter/ regas inverters to improve heating and cooling during summer. I live in Melbourne. My inverter doesn’t heat well during winter and isn’t cool during summer. I’ve cleaned the filters by vacuuming them. Sorry I don’t know much about these and would like a rough idea of how much it’ll cost.

  • How old is it?

  • I’m not sure tbh, must be older than 10 years I think (I only moved in 2 years ago and the previous owner installed it).

  • what do you mean by inverter? That's not a correct way to refer to your system, sound like an air-con, but the term inverter refer to a type of electric motor, which can be from a fridge to a solar inverter. And if it's a heating/cooling thing, is that a split or ducted system, which can be very different in identifying the issue and fixing it.

Actually, inverter is short for power inverter a circuit to convert direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). Hence, solar panels, which produce DC, are coupled with inverters to produce AC for use in the household power circuit.

With regard to air conditioning, the traditional sort of AC motor will only run at a fixed speed and the thermostat turns it on and off. In an air conditioner with an inverter can efficiently drive the motor at different speeds, providing smoother temperature control.

  • Invertor air conditioners do exist.

If it needs gas it must have a gas leak.

  • Get an A/C tech to look at it and diagnose first?

  • Even if you clean the filters, the actual coils can get clogged up which significantly affects performance & efficiency. If you're not keen to pull off panels or ductwork (for a ducted system) then any reasonable service tech should also check & clean this whilst checking gas pressure.

I'm speaking from experience - landlords got a tech to quote repairs, but he basically said it was not a gas leak or anything (which I initially suspected) but the ceiling unit was utterly clogged - despite my ongoing filter cleaning; he basically said it'll happen over time for everyone. After two months of waiting for the quote to be approved, I did the coil clean myself and it's made a huge difference.
