Gutter and Downpipe Adaptor

I'm looking for a solution - maybe an adaptor - for the connection between the gutter elbow joint (100x100) to the downpipe (100x75). Please see attached diagram.

The existing solution had a gap that dropped into a triangular shaped catcher than connected into the downpipe, but this has rusted and water leaks out of the holes.

There doesn't seem to be a standard adapter - either Colorbond or PVC.

I'm happy to replace the Colorbond downpipe that connects to the PVC storm drain adaptor with a PVC pipe if it's easier but presumably that will need two adaptors and are they available?

    • Neither end of that one seems to fit the OP's pipes…

  • ihbh: Just so I'm clear, your colorbond downpipe from your guttering is 100mm square, but your colorbond downpipe to the ground is 100mm x 75mm, and you want something to connect them both?

The only solution I can find without spending hours on it is to convert 100mm square to 100mm round, then 100mm round to 100mm x 75mm square, with two PVC adaptors. I actually can't recall having seen 100mm square downpipes on a house - I don't think it's very common. Perhaps it was done because of the leaf catcher or whatever else the thing you've removed was.

If you're able to, I suggest you go to a plumbing store like Reese and see what they can suggest. I am not a plumber!

I'm not clear on what the third item in your diagram is.

    • Yes, exactly.

The third item is the storm water drain adaptor. I included it in the diagram because another solution might be to change the 100x75 downpipe and just have a round PVC downpipe with adaptors to the 100x100 elbow joint and the storm water drain?

A guy from Bunnings said apparently 100mm square is common for commercial builds. The 100mm square is just the elbow connection from the gutter to the "catcher" with the downpipe below. The catcher was probably a workaround fix.

That's what I thought re the 2 PVC adaptors - it might be the most standardised way to fix this.

Thanks, Reece was my next port of call.

  • call Ace gutters. If they haven't got it, nobody has.

rather than adapting the 100x100 to the 100x75 you might wish to just have a leaf catcher in the 100x75.

    • Thanks, called them. They don't have anything; they suggested I get a plumber/handyman to fold something to right size.
