  • Just finished d Rise of the tomb raider and it was great. How does this compare?

    • +24

      It's more shadowy

        well done

    • Its good, very quest driven. More of the same but also different. The outfit system is different.
Setting is more jungle type rather than rock temple.
      I enjoyed it.

Shadow doesn't fare well compared to Rise to be honest.

Shadow is mostly puzzle and platform orientated. A lot less combat sequences than Tomb Raider and Rise.

Story is meh. It's the same shit but in a hidden jungle village compared to a hidden mountain village.

Think I got this the last time it was advertised for $9, and I didn't regret it. It's not the greatest game I've ever played, but it certainly isn't the worst. Found that there was next to no combat in this one, so if that's what draws you to these, fair warning. It is a good looking game, and scratched the itch I had for something involving a lot of exploration. A lot of moving/fighting through jungles and underwater. As tallkid said, story isn't terribly fresh or exciting. I'd say jump in at $9 - there's worse ways to spend the money.

I don't know if I m weird but I prefer shadow over rise. It looks so beautiful with hdr. I am suckrr for visuals

    • It has a really badass moment where she comes out of the water all pissed off.. about 3/4 into the game.. very cool cut scene. 10/10 would watch that cut scene again.

    • I was terribly disappointed. The main story was padded into DLC and just didn’t have the same hook and polish as the earlier titles. The ending was crap and felt very anticlimactic. The story was naff.

It's less combat and more exploration focused and that's what makes it quite a polarising game. TBH, I initially found it to be less engaging because of the lesser amount of combat, but that immediately changed once I started doing all the SIDE MISSIONS, which I initially kind of ignored—a good chunk of the combat is in those side missions! Don't skip them because they're fun, and they reward you with items and skills.

Another thing is the merchants. I didn't pay attention to them, so I was wondering why there were so few weapons compared to Rise, but most weapons have to be bought. Again, once I started doing that, I started to enjoy it more.

Overall though, I really enjoyed it, and I thought there was a good balance of combat and exploration by the end. It was no less fun than the first two for me. I really enjoyed stumbling across a new tomb or crypt. I completed all areas and 100% the game.

It's also an absolutely stunning looking game on Xbox One X. I stopped the game several times just to appreciate the scenery and environments.

  • Thanks, that's cheaper than digital copy on sale. Played the demo, was pretty good.

It's been this price for the last couple of months.

    Good game IMO.

  • Also I believe the "definitive edition" DLC is ~$10 on PS Store at the moment

  • Still on game pass also I think.

There's one chapter set at the Croft estate, so you're literally at the Chateau of the Tomb Raider in the Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Picked it up during the last $9 sale. Still haven't played it…

    • Same, I don't even have XB1 :)

  • Everyday price bruh

Except JB where you can find it for $9?

    • It went up to $19 for a while.

  • +2

I enjoyed this more than it’s previous ones.
    I’d prefer exploration over action

  • Dang when will PC drop this low

    • Same still waiting even I have bought this.

  • saw this other day. no stores have stock. have to get delivery.

edit: delivery only $2. got it lol.

    • I just checked still a lot of stock in store for XB1 near Sydney.

  • I paid $69 when it came out and have only gotten around to playing it now:) Amazing graphics. Stoopid story. Best $9 you could ever spend though. Why so cheap?

  • Excellent price.

I still can't believe the other games are pretty expensive though.

  • Can I get price match at ebgames since no jbhifi in Sydney got one

    • Did you check online? I can still see some have stock XB1 in Sydney.
