Crest Earth Smart Alternatives

Is there a modern equivalent to the Crest Earth Smart powerboards? The one I've had is well past it's use by date (slightest touch to cables trips the surge protection) and I'd love to get another powerboard with the ability to turn off secondary sockets based on whether a master socket is sucking juice or not to save power/not manually turn off peripherals.

More info on the Crest Earth Smart boards I'm talking about can be found here: https://www.gadgetguy.com.au/crest-earth-smart-make-a-differ…

    • Suggestions from that thread:
      * Mort Bay 5 Outlet Auto Standby Killer Power Board Energy Saver Surge Protector - no longer available
      * Jaycar Master / Slave Powerboard - no longer available
      * Embertec Smartswitch - only 1+1, not a powerboard

    • They look like interesting options…. until you notice they mention surge protected but can't say to what level J/Amps. That's not disconcerting at all.

    I just read your post again, and I'm not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean the overload cutout, where you need to press a button when it trips? If so, I think you need to stop using that power board right now - there's something shorting out inside it - it's very unsafe.

    Surge protection is usually electronics components. There is nothing to "trip". Surge protection components absorb short term high voltage transients, and to some extent they are sacrificial and can "wear out" over time, depending on the nature of the transients.
