Kills me that the turtle isn't Japanese made, let alone the movement.

  • how does someone rate seiko watches are they really good? for the price or just a gimick?

    • +4

Seiko watches have always been an OzBargain favourite, great value for money for a quality and reliable entry level mechanical watch backed by 3 Year Local Warranty and 1 Year International Warranty.

  • Does the $229 one worth a go?

Does anyone have any recommendations for aftermarket straps/bracelets from Australia? There's a few online stores but I fear they are just rebadged aliexpress/dhgate straps and they don't inspire me with confidence.

sydney strap co used to be crap, but i bought some NATO straps off them recently and they were really thick and well made. They also had little details like the logo on the buckle so they at least aren't dropshipped.

      • That could be a good shout. I bought a couple nato straps from there a couple years ago and they were thin junk. Wasn't impressed at all. Good to see they've improved, I may have a look at them again. Thanks!

    • Sydney strap co are pretty good and decent prices too

I've got the SRPD65K3 from the previous starbuy deal. It's a great watch for the price. This particular one is actually a silicon strap with a faux croc print on it. It's quite a comfortable strap. The gunmetal case looks really good and IMO much better than a matte PVD. I'm used to bigger seiko's like the turtle and sumo but at 42.5mm this wears very well.

I just ordered the SRPD63K yesterday. It's not part of the sale but I can't resist the colour combo.

  • I presume the only difference between the first and second watch listed above is the band…yes?
i.e an extra $60 for the bracelet version? Thanks in advance…

    • Yes the Band and also one is Gun Metal Grey and the other is Silver. I purchased the Silver with Black Dial on Steel Bracelet, I think it's worth the extra $60 as the OEM Bracelet can be hard to come by and often cost ~$100 on its own.

  • Cant decide Seiko 5 Black or Blue… Theres are Malaysian made, right?

    • I went with Black ;)

    • Yes, made in Malaysia, assembled in china. Turtle/Samurai should be made in Japan.

FYI Starbuy are sketchy when it comes to warranty. My Samurai is having issues and whilst I contract support, I get no response.
    Others may have more luck.

    • @billq We have been a little busy with the temporary closure of our warehouse as all shipping is now being done from the office. Please email us at [email protected] and we can look into this for you.
      Thanks

      edit: Got it, thanks.

    • I got a chapter ring of death - it was bad. Their response was, 'Looks OK to us'. I was disappointed. My other purchase was the good though. Perhaps their attitude is the same as Seiko's.

      • @ilikeit Could we have your order number so we can have a look at this?
        Thanks

        • Have PM'd you.

  • Turtle or Samurai? Which one would you advise to buy?

    • +1

Looks like the specifications are the same/ very similar, so might just come down to which style you prefer.

Didn't really pay attention that the turtle was a day date. Went for the samurai :-)

        • Good pick up, didn't notice that initially.

  • Ordered Tuesday night, received lunch time today, couldn't be happier with the service.
