    • I'm basically wanting to do the exact same thing as you. Can anyone suggest who I should grab a Sim from to accomplish this.

I'm with Telstra as well but I'm pretty sure my 12 month plan is up.
I was on the $49 plan with basically the same benefits as this one and I just noticed instead of paying $390 termination on the new plan it's probably better to contact Telstra after I have accomplished what needs to be done in store to cancel my current number and ask them to replace the new number with my old one. I have done this in the past. Therefore I will be paying $16 extra a month that's $192 instead of 390 for the early termination if this makes sense

      • Does this work? I am on the same contract but with a different device offer. I got a new sim in order to do this. Can I have this contract on my old number?

Couldn’t see any stock or the iPhone xs max on their website, would they have enough stock in store?

    • I too am curious how to locate stock without having to call them up tomorrow morning.

  • +1

I'm struggling to find information on TGG and JB HiFi but are any of the Samsung stock dual sim?

  • +9

Looks like there are other iPhone models available including:
    iPhone XS 256gb $469 upfront
    iPhone XS 512gb $599 upfront
iPhone XS Max 64gb $449 upfront
iPhone XS Max 256gb $579 upfront

    • How did you find these phones were available? I couldn’t find it but interested in the XS versions!

      • +4

        https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/telstra-mobile-and-broadband-…

Scroll over to the $65 plan then scroll down just after the mention of $400 gift card and it mentions all the phones there.

        • Thanks mate :)

        • Can't even seem to find stock of XS (non-max) in any Brisbane area store!

        • Scroll over to the $65 plan then scroll down just after the mention of $400 gift card and it mentions all the phones there.

Saw these yesterday. Seems to be taken down now.

    • At the time of writing they still have 1 iPhone XS 256gb $469 available at the Alexandria, NSW store, in case anyone is interested.

  • Did anyone saw the T&C about the deal?

Is it really only restricted to TGG stores at both locations listed below?

Offer only available at the Blacktown and Essendon The Good Guys Stores. Excludes all other
stores, online and eBay, Existing Boost, Belong and Telstra Pre-Paid customers.

    • +1

I guess that only applies for the Samsungs

  • So reading earlier comments, if you keep it for 6 months, and then cancel the plan, you pay $180 as the ETC? (half of $780, pro-rated?)

  • For the upfront payment, can it be paid by TGG gift vouchers ?

    • Yes. You can

      • Thanks mate!

  • This looks like a ripper deal! I’ve been looking for a cheap xs (non max) deal.

When looking to buy outright - TGG is out of stock but maybe these come from Telstra who are still selling the Xs’s on a plan.

  • Some pretty sweet deals!

  • Does anybody know how strict they are on port ins?

I've done similar deals like this in the past at JB and as long as it's a new contract they don't seem to care.

Or if somebody could suggest a quick cheap Sim I could activate to take advantage of this?

  • All your S9 PDFs link to the same document mate

  • all the s9 offers mention "only available at the Castle Hill and Essendon The Good Guys Stores"

  • Pardon my stupidity but the attachment says specific stores only. Any idea if this is valid in ALL stores and ppl were getting different emails pending their locations?

  • I wanted the Note 9 but fark driving to Blacktown for that.

  • Does it come with international data / roaming?

  • +1

This is a good deal, but last months [XS 64gb for $199] (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/524629) was better from a bigger percentage discount perspective:

    XS Max 512gb (this deal)
    2199 (RRP) - 699 (upfront cost) / 2199 x 100 = 68.2% discount.

    XS 64gb
    1099 (RRP) - 199 (upfront cost) / 1099 x 100 = 81.9% discount.

Note: XS 64gb often on sale for $999
    999 (sale price) - 199 (upfront cost) / 999 x 100 = 80.1% discount.

      Name checks out

  • +3

I just went to their website to check if the deals were store specific (in the t&c’s per the above users comments) and noticed all the phone options were pulled off the $65 deal??? Only the bonus $400 store credit is left.

    Has this been pulled already?

    • Looks like all gone.

      • I also checked the online catalogue and it only shows the $400 credit

  • +4

Is it just me or are The Good Guys being a bit scummy with these deals these days? Admittedly last time this kind of thing (sort of) happened a lot of people knew it was too good to be true as it was someone getting a magical deal that wasn't advertised anywhere.

I just called one of my local stores and the guy dismissed my query pretty well straight away and said 'that deal ended yesterday'. But the PDFs say the deal starts the 1st of May.

    • +2

So do I, I called two local TGG in VIC, they either never heard this deal (checked with manager) or the deal was ended yesterday.

      • +1

Quick update to anyone interested… just called a different store and the guy was much more helpful. He said something about the dates being wrong on the PDFs but the deal does start today, and they have a few of each in stock. He's put a 512gb XS Max aside for me. Heading in store now.

        • which store?

          • @fox81: In SA. If that's helpful to you perhaps I can message you which one? Or you message me? Not sure how the messaging system on here works.

            • -1

              @elib: no deal

            • @elib: What's stopping you from telling the guy the exact store?

              • +2

@Sammy Boi: Maybe out of consideration to TGG employee who won't need to deal with 50 phone calls today about putting an iPhone XS aside for them?

                • @EFC94: Exactly. Thanks @EFC94

Also there aren't many stores in SA so I figured it would be pretty easy to call a few and see what they say.

I've just done the paperwork for the one they put aside for me but now need to wait for credit check.

                  • @elib: Hey, could you message me which stores you had luck with? Interested in getting an iPhone XS Max.

  • +2

No TGG stores are honoring this deal.

  • +3

The Good Guys, too good to be true

  • I successfully spoke to a rep at a store and they acknowledged that the deal exists and have located stock for me.

  • Not honored

  • Thank you OP!

  • Thanks OP

Got the last xs max 512gb from brighton Vic instore

    They have couple of 256gb

    • Were they offering the deal on 256GB? ($449)
Edit - Sorry i think it was 579 for 256GB and 469 for XS 256GB

      • +1

Yes they do this promo for 256gb

        • Thank You.

  • Anyone found the S9 anywhere?

  • Geelong, Hoppers Crossing, Thomastown still have stock (in VIC) but are selling quick.

Of 256gb non max that is. I didn’t check the max

    • When I got mine from brighton, they checked and Thomastown had stock for xs max 512gb.

  • Maribynong also have stock of the max.

    • any ip 64gb xs max?

      • Suggest you call for what you are after and ask to have it put aside. They mentioned at maribynong that they have quite a few maxes in Stock.

  • so i will need to buy the amaysim prepaid sim card and activate it first then come to TGG to port in and sign up for this deal, pay $599 upfront for the phone, walk out and cancel the plan. Pay $390 for cancellation fee

  • Yep - be mindful it might not get ported right away… I’m still waiting for my port…

Others have said it was done in 5 minutes

    • thanks, i bought prepaid amaysim and activated it within 10 minutes. Walked to the store and signed up for the deal and has 256gb xs max gold. now coming to the cancel plan , what should i do next?

      • Cancel plan

  • I want to get the mobile on new plan but I was told I have to port in and it should have been active for at least 28 days. Without any number to port in what are my options?

    • im not sure they can tell how long youve been with the other provider. you need to have left telstra for 28 days i believe

      • Thanks

  • Anyone in Brisbane got this deal?

    • +1

I contacted the Tingalpa store and they were really helpful. They located stock for an iPhone Xs Max 256GB in Logan and are transferring it for me. They have confirmed that the deal will be honored.

  • Got my XS Max 256Gb from Casula NSW today. They still have a few in stock (gold and white ones). This deal is outrageous, less than $600 for a brand new 256gb iPhone Max!

  • I just bought iPhone XS Max 256 from South east Melbourne and cancelled paying $390 for cancellation. Total is 579 + 390 = $969

    • +1

Did they ask you to port in a number?

      • Yes only available for port ins

        • Thanks

    • Didn’t you get charged the first month $65?

      • Is pro rata, so if charged first month before canceling it will be refunded as a cheque

      • No I am not charged $65 for the first month.. in total I need to pay $390
You have to call Telstra care to cancel the contract, make sure you receive an estimate stating $390 as etc otherwise sometimes request fails in their system..

    • How do you cancel the contract? by apps or calling any number?

      • Either

        • i use the chat app to contact telstra and they said i have to contact the good guy team to cancel the contract.

          • @at91: Use the Telstra app to change your plan to a Telstra one then cancel that?

            • @Fancydancer: finally this guy agree to terminate my contract from post paid to prepaid and i need to pay $388.95 + prodata charge which system calculated of the used day during the billing cycle so which is $388.95 + $65 and this termination fee will be applied the next billing cycle. Are you getting the same thing?

            • @Fancydancer: finally called them up on the telstra support number and successfully terminate the contract. i have received the email confirmation for the billing which is $391.05. all good now

    • I don’t know if there’s an inconsistency with the chat reps because I was charged $270 including a pro rata fee to change the plan from postpaid to prepaid? :S happy enough with the reduced but also confused

  • Thanks op managed to get the last one at my local GG. Converted a long time loyal Optus customer!

  • +2

Well done to all that got one! Mine is still on hold - having problems
Porting my number but should be fixed tomorrow.

Whilst there was limited stock - I think it is still a good deal! It’s going to go down as one of my best bargains - thanks OP🍻

I’m a 10 year plus Vodafone and they have snared me with this deal too!

  • My iPhone se ordeal from JB Hifi last week makes me very wary.

I ended up having to pay full retail on the phone, because Telstra porting wasn’t working (I wanted the phone that day, so needed to pay for it, then go back for my $550 refund when porting done). The porting was cancelled by Telstra … no reason given. No port, no $550 credit.

All very weird, and JB are being useless.

  • +1

Thanks OP, got 2 XS max 512gb for the wife and myself from Caringbah, they have plenty of stock and manager is super friendly to deal with.

  • Thanks OP. Managed to get one XS Max 256GB in Gold.

  • +2

Thanks OP, got two XS Max 512GB for my wife and I at Geelong yesterday.

Funny thing was, I rang nice and early to have them hold two Max's for me, I got there after work, and he said "oh, you said Max right?" He'd put aside you non-Max's instead. My heart sunk, thinking they would've sold out for sure because of you lot, and I was thinking what a waste of a huge drive all the way to Geelong. He come back out, and said yep, we still have stock. I even got the colours I was after.

I gotta say, the two guys I had helping me at Geelong yesterday were super cool, I'm wishing they were my local store now.

  • No peace of mind data as usual? Anyone can confirm?

  • +1

Anyone managed to get the plan downgrade to 50? Thanks.

    • +2

Just answering my own thread, I have tried online chat using the app and first person refused everything but second lady was so nice that she waived Early termination and even applied 10 discount per month.

      • Wow, how did you managed to get ETC waived?

        • I think the only way to downgrade is recontract into market plan which I was told to have this once off waive for my contract to month to month

      • I tried yesterday with the app, chatting with a staff for hours. first i asked if he could move my plan to a prepaid plan, he told me i have to pay $319 for the termination, then he told me he could downgrade my plan to $50/mth with 30GB data, i agreed, but after hours, he told me they couldn't do it on their end, asked me to visit JB Hi-Fi store, only they could do it….. hmm…. very different treatment. but good on you and Telstra.

        • +1

I would recommend you try again, I also got refused at first.

          • @tif1607: I tried this (asked to downgrade my plan) but got the same guy on the chat the second time I asked :( The chat history is there for you to view so I assume the staff also have this info in front of them…I guess you just have to get lucky.

            • @andyman1908: End query first then you get another person

              • @tif1607: Seems like the message telstra function on the telstra app has no end query option. It just takes me back to the screen with chat history to enter a new line of chat.
