Looking to Buy New Modem Wi-Fi Router

I am looking to replace my NetCommWireless N300 WiFi Gigabit Router (got it from my TPG NBN provider 4 years ago). I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 other heavy user (we mainly use the internet for streaming, gaming).

Any recommendations on what is good out in the market? My budget is $100-$170

Thanks! :)

ASUS RT-AC68U, you can get an opened never used one for $150-170 and an unopened one for $200-225 (lower during eBay deals). It has a great number of features and all round capabilities.

Isn't this just a router? I thought OP wanted a modem router?

      • OP wants modem, but only needs router.

        • Not sure why the negs.

It's true the OP has a Modem+Router (2-in-1) device. And they asked for a replacement. If they have an NBN box, that means it is the modem and they only need a Router.

What Rumbaar was suggesting (i think) was actually the ASUS DSL-AC68U. It has an inbuilt ADSL Modem, and is very similar to the "Router-only" model. It's usually $50-$100 more expensive for this than the Router-only model. And where the Router has VPN built-in and can be jailbroken, I'm pretty sure the ASUS DSL-AC68U cannot. So I guess buyer beware.

Here's a link to the first eBay that came up, for $125.

OP - what type of NBN connection?

  • Hi Everyone, sorry to takeover OP's post.

I'm also looking for a new router for my NBN connection (FTTC). Was looking at the google nest since my house is pretty big, about 4 rooms and my room is the furthest away from the router. However, I'm also open to other routers budget is $200-350.

    • Nest wifi isn't suitable with all ISPs. Who are you with?

      • Aussie broadband, it's part of their package so it'll be compatible

        • Yeah it is. Add these routers to your research list.

          TP-Link Deco M5 Whole-Home Mesh Wi-Fi Router System $188-299
AmpliFi HD WiFi Router by Ubiquiti Labs $299
AmpliFi Instant WiFi Router System by Ubiquiti Labs $329

          • @Twix: Do you know if the netgear orbi AC2200 is compatible? I would like connect my computer with an ethernet cable to the nod.
