Worth it just for the packaging.

    • +101

Can confirm, as soon as i'd unpacked it i threw the Switch straight in the bin. A++ packaging.

      • Hell yeah i'm definitely buying another one

      • +10

Can you tell me where your bin is?

        • +5

          Outside his house.

    • +2

Just sold my box at scamtree for $100. Buyer looked happy.

      • +1

        What? Why?

      • Did you open the box before selling? If so, you may as well sign up a second account now to defend yourself.

        • Nah he swapped the box, gave buyer the old box instead

  • +1

What does it mean new look packaging?

    • +17

      means it is not old

      • So it has been used already

        • +8

It's referring to the latest version of the Switch which has increased battery life. The quick way to tell is the new box design.

    • +6

It’s the 2019 revision of the console - better battery life than the original model.
But redundant putting it into the title, finding old stock now would be difficult

      • +2

And it has the updated firmware so you can't install custom OS's on it.

        • +2

I'm actually curious, with custom firmware, what can you really do with it? What can't you do with it?

          • +1

@lesher: Mostly just piracy but you do other cool things like install Linux, load other people save files, install mods and more.

          • @lesher: Basically, very easy to run any downloaded switch game you want on it for free. These first edition consoles are hard to find now though. If you do, expect to pay $$$$ for them.

          • +2

@lesher: Homebrew and 'backing-up' games mostly. You can also run custom scripts/hacks/mods and operating systems.

Handy if you want to run Netflix on an Android OS, make every Pokemon shiny or inject custom weapons into Splatoon for example.

@TogTogTogTog: I sold my OG switch to buy one of these new look packaging ones for the better battery life. I did wonder why I had so many messages asking me the serial number etc.

              • +2

@cc23: Yeah, always makes you wonder when people ask weird stuff about things you're selling lol. OG Switches are worth more than the new ones, at least until the supposed 'new exploit' for patched switches and lites comes out (which has been rumoured for 6mths now).

                • +3

@TogTogTogTog: Yeah I’m kind of against pirating anyway. When I did it with PlayStation games when I was a kid I just never played anything. Now when I pay it’s like a contract to enjoy a game.

Plus the big boys like Nintendo don’t need my money, but the indie ones I like do, I’d buy Celeste 10 times just to support that team.

                • @TogTogTogTog: there is a mod chip coming out for lite and every model normal switch.
It's already been confirmed working as they sent out beta testing units to specific people.

However if you want to play any game online on a lite or a patched console you are better off just not getting the chip as nintendo actively hands out unbypassable console bans to people modifying the consoles software and/or pirating. :)

    • +3

Double the battery life compared to the one in the original packaging.

  • -3

    Normal price. Time WASTER!

    • +2

Go and find a cheaper price. It's the current bargain, if you can get one.

  • OZRRP AM I RITE?!

    • +20

It’s actually $20 cheaper than RRP

    • Yes, the RRP is usually listed along with the price so that it manipulates the reader into thinking the deal is better value.

    • +7

Miss the days where the switch was under $400

  • +3

Is this really a bargain. I think not. Only because no stock. In another month it should be sub $400. Just wait for Amazon to get more stock and put on sale.

    • +5

People were recently paying $700 for used consoles on eBay. The old model too. A few months ago would this be considered a bargain? No way. Today, I’d say it’s a pretty good deal.

      • I wish you told me that before, I've had my Switch and a load of games and accessories been sitting in a corner waiting for me to put them online to sell, everything is practically new, besides the 100hrs I put into Smash Bros.

    • +1

Price usually stabilises at around $400, maybe a flood of post-lockdown Switches might saturate the market which will cause the new stock to dip below $400 again

  • -5

I'd imagine a new model/improved hardware would be due by the end of the year to challenge some sales of PS5 and Xbox Series X and just in general as it's about time for a Switch revision.

    • I think Nintendo said a Pro model wasn’t releasing this year.

    • +3

      Not until 2021 I thought.

    • i don't think hardware performance is a priority at all for the switch, it was never remotely competitive to ps4/xbone in that aspect.

  • -7

Bought it just for the packaging

    • +8

Bit late in on the joke there bud

    • -6

Can confirm, as soon as i'd unpacked it i threw the Switch straight in the bin. A++ packaging.

Brisbane area - showing in stock at:
    City - Adelaide St
    Carseldine
    Capalaba
    Mt Ommaney

  • +4

Its like the Simpsons episode where Malibu Stacy gets a new hat

  • +2

Not gonna lie, seeing all these posts about the Switch make me want to try it, just like the DARE drug program. I'll just try it once! And then that's it, no more, I swear.

    • They're pretty good. $450 is rough- not even a year ago a friend of mine picked up the new/2019 model for around $340. Wait if you can.

      • +1

Doubt you'll see those prices again until sales in Nov/Dec.

        • I would agree, but I don't think waiting for a price under $400 is crazy.

But if you're stuck at home and you've got money to burn, go for it. What's $100

          • +1

            @SolidworksError:

            What's $100

            100 Coles Express coffees…

            • @jv: Aren't they 80 cents? 125 Coles Express coffees.
              But I'd rather the 100 $1 7-Eleven coffees.

  • +1

    Yeah boi!

  • it was 300 dollars more than a year ago. what happened?

    • +16

      Bats and Pangolins

    • +2

      Supply and demand

  • -6

I know there has been a Nintendo Switch shortage but this is a PSA and should be in the forums, wouldn't consider this a bargain, this is normal pricing.

    • +10

It’s relative. If you want a Switch tomorrow, where can you a) actually get one, and b) get one cheaper than this?

      • +4

Smart buyers would wait. Suckers a plenty in this shortage. Which mind you is partly due to those trying to make a buck on FB or GT.

        • +3

Bollocks. This has nothing to do with being smart - we're in a pandemic and people have a lot of time on their hands which can be filled by playing their video game of choice. If that means paying RRP then that's life - for the sake of a ~$50 saving versus waiting months for a decent sale I know what I'd choose.

  • +1

Animal crossing is just a hype phase. It's the same as new leaf. I got about 20 hours of it before I'm utterly bored doing the same repetitive tasks each day.

    • +7

Cool but the Switch has plenty of great games other than Animal Crossing

      • What would you say are the top 5 must haves?

        • My favourites are:
          - Super Mario Odyssey
          - Breath of the Wild
          - Hyrule Warriors
          - Mario Kart 8
          - Link's Awakening

I've also been playing a bunch of non-exclusives like A Hat in Time, Valient Hearts and Child of Light.
They're not as good as grahpics/framerate on PC but nice due to portability.

          • @FireRunner: Was a big fan of the 64 growing up then stopped playing video games in my 20s. After watching various videos and articles about the switch, I bought into the hype and ordered one recently along with 3 of those games listed. Excited to relive my childhood experience soon! Interested to see how the graphics have evolved since the 64 days.

  • Wow, switch at $450 as a "bargain". Crazy times.

  • +1

Managed to get one there was only 5 in the Brisbane store and there was line for it ! Got it on price protection credit card so once the price drops will just claim the difference

  • +6

So many complaining that it's 'not a deal' when its been confirmed multiple times that RRP in times of high demand is considered a deal.

    • so that justification is okay?

  • -1

    Lol the locations

  • Anyone know where I can get one?

    • Harvey Norman has grey consoles in stock online

      • Thanks!
