Because not all 4K are created equally? Can mobile film log/raw/10bit and etc?

The BMPCC4K is probably the best prosumer cinema camera ever created. Its colour science is gorgeous, it's ergonomics are better than any DSLR and it's M4/3 mount makes it adaptable to a wide variety of lenses, including native anamorphic now.

Comparing it to a camera phone is like comparing a nice house to a cardboard box under a broken bridge surrounded by a sea of used syringes and free-range copies of Dianetics.

      • That final paragraph was poetry. Take an upvote

The most accurate comment i've seen all year :D

      • With that red hot chili peppers classic blasting on a cracked megaphone in a perpetual loop for all eternity?

      • Camera is just a tool. Professional videographer would shoot better video on a Samsung phone than amateur using Red Digital Cinema 8K.

        • Eh, a good editor will make phone footage look OK.

    • No.

    • Thought ur a wizard? Cmon mate.

    Fantastic camera!

Agreed! Best prosumer cinema camera ever made.

Absolutely amazing video camera. I would love a flip out screen and even Auto focus would have been useful. But still, nothing comparable.

Don't forget, you get the full Da Vinci software with the camera.

        • You can get after market modifications for tilt screens now.

          • @bootlace: I just bought another screen. Don't feel like messing with a good thing!

  • do they take phone orders?

    • I'm not sure, but worth trying…

Just what I need for my Zoom meetings!

Then you will need a few in different positions and a ATEM mini pro.

  • Plus the blackmagic editing/colour grading software is free and first class. Good to support them just for that!

  • mmm, I want, lately thinking of gh5 vs bmpcc. Can't beat my Sony on auto focus but I could go for some 60fps 4K :D

BMPCC4K destroys the GH5. Blackmagic Raw and the dynamic range you get, coupled with a great colour science, runs laps around a GH5 IMO.

The amount of detail I've pulled back from blown out skies with BRAW is staggering. We took some footage to our colour gradist on a production back in January and she was floored. We've been using the BMPCC4K as a B cam against ARRIs - if you lens it right, they're a great match.

  • which lens would you recommend to go with this body?

    • METABONES + Sigma 1835 f1.8 which means another $2000

    • I ended up going for the Panasonic Lumix 12-60mm 2.8-4. Watching a video on YouTube - it seems to be quite parfocal so good for zooming while retaining the focus point…

Ended up getting one from eBay with 10% off for $900. I haven't received it yet so can't say whether it was a good choice :).

I thought about the metabones and Sigma 18-35 mentioned above (which I've owned previously and really liked) - but trying to stay native lenses for now.

  • Any good for still photography?

    • can not

      • +1

        just press pause.

    • +1

Yep, wouldn't suggest it for still photography.. If you wanted something that was geared towards both photography and video - I'd suggest GH5, which is closest to this video-wise at this price point (though it has been out a while).

Lusted after this camera after doing some research for a video camera late last year. This is an unbelievably good price for an awesome video camera. Thanks OP
