Have someone selling a lenovo laptop locally. It's brand new but he does not have a receipt.
Question - is it possible to register it with lenovo for warranty?

Not that I remember. I've added ThinkPads I've purchased from eBay that way.
If pressed say it was a gift from your great aunt. Who passed away.

yeah, how do you know? trying my best here - checked s/n, paying to a bank account, pickup from their place
ask the seller to provide the serial number, check the lenovo site to see if warranty is still valid
before paying, ask to inspect the laptop, turn it on and check the specs match with the description.
You'll need to sign into your Lenovo account, and go to My Products to add a new product by serial number. You can then check the warranty info or getting extended warranty.
