This would be great for locals or for a group who chip in. They’re a big enough company to survive the closures so it seems incredible value when they do reopen (as long as they don’t increase their prices threefold)! Not in Melbourne but have visited before and had a great time

"The amount redeemable on your Beer Hall card does not expire, but we encourage you to use it within 12 months." Strange term haha.

    • They mention you can get a refund if they go under within 12 months of purchase. Might be the reason for the odd wording?

      • +3

No they don't mention that at all.

They simply say that you may request a refund. Not that you'll actually be given one.

    • would have to spend about $60 a week at the place to do $3k in a year… suppose its doable

  • +2

This seems like a very fair deal. Now to track down couple of mates to split this with…

      • +6

Stomping Ground is also the brewery founded by the guys who started GABS - they sold the GABS brand to focus on the brewery. Probably plenty loaded to keep things going through this time, but cashflow is always king in business.

What an extraordinary outburst. What did they do to you?

  • Can stack and use it for function?

    • site says can be used for birthdays, parties etc

  • What's this get you 'Invitation for two people to 1x Beer Table in the Beer Hall when we re-open'

    • +1

I would like to know too. I assume it means they’ll have some form of welcome back grand opening event and you get a reserved spot + 1 at a table when they do. I don’t think that has any monetary value other than a reservation placeholder.

Thanks for the study into me 00 , I'd prefer scam alert for the uniformed on this thread from someone who aware of current circumstances .
BTW no time to study you I prefer to make some dough :)

      • thank you!

  • +2

$1K to a business that may not exist in 3 months doesn't seem like a great idea?

    • +10

Have you been to their venue?

It’s a well oiled operation and very very popular.

I see no reason for them not to continue. They still sell beer that is widely available during lockdown.

      • +9

The owners also sold the GABS Festival before Covid hit. They also own The Local Taphouse in St Kilda. They'll be fine.

      • -4

Holden arguably was a well oiled machine and very very popular. Things changed, didn't they?

        • +2

they were not popular and owned by a foreign corporation (GM)
          Holden also required government subsidies.
They also made cars. Cars that apparently nobody wanted anymore because buyers were all conned in by the plethora of SUV marketing and went out and bought imported little monster trucks.

        • They were propped up by the government for yeaaaaaaars

        • +2

The writing was on the wall with Holden for around a decade, Everyone knew they was on a slow spiral downhill which is why no one brought any of their cars in the last 5 years which then made them rebrand crappy KIA's and other overseas models, Catch 22. If anything the global financial crisis hurt all the major car makers pretty bad and GM had to be bailed out.

          • @ickyboo: It was crappy Daihatsus that they rebadged.

    • +3

It is a very popular venue that is packed to capacity during the day on the weekend, and they are also a very successful brewery

    • +9

are you going to contribute anything worthwhile or just random unsubstantiated irrelevant rants based solely on your own assumptions?

    • +6

      Go away. Toilet paper hoarder

  • +1

One of my locals and well spotted. Sold. Legend

  • I'm trying to sell the boss on a post-covid19 pissup, just scared that could be 12 months away :(

    • July mate, maybe Sept. Watch and see. It will be with the planet in some way for probably the next 3 years, but the lock outs, shut downs and restrictions within Aus for people who havent been OS recently (at that time) will be done by then. Unless morons force governments to open to early, then we get a nasty second wave that makes the first look like a practice run.

      /puts magic 8 ball away.

      • My expectation is a team of 30 in a small area is going to at least be a few more months off, with social distancing and all. Granted, I'm happy to be that far away with them if there's a $3k tab on the bar and I can be out and about, here's hoping you're right!

  • +7

Appreciate the genius in this business move.
    1. Obvious cash flow implications
    2. The liability they take on for the 3x credit will result in strong patronage as soon as they open. Busy bars will likely attract cash paying customers.
    Genius win, win.

  • Thanks OP! Bought 10.

  • This is absolutely fantastic. I'd jump in, but planning on moving out of Melbourne in the next couple months :(
Great food & beer, tours are decent too.

  • +2

A true ozbargainer would know that this will all end in tears, with many people out of pocket.

    • Nice not just me , OO need to read that simple quote .

  • Would like to jump in, but too far.

  • +1

Pretty amazing, I jumped on the Silver card. Gold was a bit hard to justify, even though I live nearby I don't think that'd be a healthy lifestyle :P

With silver I can still have several big nights with mates, plus you get the beers from the gold tier which is sweet.

  • Ooo this is cool!
Also interested to know if this works for functions?
Alternatively does it work like a normal voucher? Like I can come in with 20 people and we could order $3000 worth of stuff?

    • +3

Just read the terms and conditions, last point suggests it can be used on functions

    • +1

I assume that would the ideal scenario for them.

The 3k value on the voucher is treated as a liability on the ol' balance sheet, so to get rid of it in one sitting would be good for them. Also the added bonus of once the 3k is up, some people in the group could be keen to kick on and start spending their own money.

  • +1

Does the golden ticket also provide you with a stackable code for 10% off Dunder Mifflin products? That would be a Golden Ticket idea!!

  • +2

Two golden tickets purchased! I'm sure my fiancé will be happy with me eventually…

  • +1

great brand with a respectable community focus, great venue that is almost always open (accomodates general admission and private functions), fantastic beers. yum.

  • +1

Appears that 'gold' has sold out.

  • +2

Grabbed the silver, looking forward to a decent sip and feed

  • +2

All the people saying this place will close sound like neckbeards who haven't left their mums basement. Stomping ground is a super popular place and is at no risk of closing. You can get their beers at dan murphys even this isn't some random back alley pub in the middle of nowhere.

    • +1

I bought Silver and broadly agree, however they did spend serious money setting up at Melbourne Airport and were in the middle of expanding in SE Melbourne too. That said the ability to sell cans at Dans and Woolworths should keep at least the Collingwood location afloat.

    • -2

"you can get their beers at Dan Murphys" ?

Does that somehow make them immune to going out of business?

Whether or not it is a back alley pub or a multi-million dollar corporation, businesses stay alive through revenue and expenses. Selling future credit is a last resort before going under. Fortunately for most people on here, they are buying this with disposable income so they'll only end up suffering a bruised pride.

  • +1

    Only bronze left now folks.

  • That’s a good sign that they aren’t selling too many in a mad money grab

  • Didn't have to wait long at all, as it turns out. Just heard that the Beer Hall reopens next week when the VIC restrictions relax. My Golden Ticket pack with the first lot of beers just arrived on Friday too… Great deal.
