Gotta admire Nintendo's ability to keep prices high, I paid the same price 3 years ago

    • They are the sole distributor in every country & maintain stock shortages to ensure anyone that doesn't play by their rules finds themselves without stock. They have been price fixing for decades just have gotten really good at it or found the right people to bribe so they never get called out on it anymore.

this game is SO good. i never go back and play previously finished games but went replayed this on master mode. this game is worth every dollar

Currently playing it on Wii U. Very overrated imo. Doesn’t feel like a Zelda game at all. The open world is so sparse. The open world makes the story a mess. Just feels grindy.

Google it to see if I was the only one with this opinion and found quite a few threads of people feeling retrospectively, it wasn’t as good as the reviews at releases would lead you to believe.

      • +3

Agree with BoTW not feeling like a Zelda game.

I enjoyed it I think for the core reason most do, the great free-roaming open world exploration.

But I get that from many other open world games.

I wanted Zelda, and I feel like I missed it with this iteration.

Yeah felt very empty. I kinda hated the items breaking easily. Had to frequently pause, swap and attack

        • +3

if items didnt break you'd always just use the strongest items. i can see why they did it. it forces you to use a range of items and your infinite bombs and time freeze etc

      • i hated it for 2 years. then i got decent progress on it and i ended up loving it. once you get the mechanics down for battle, which are somewhat similar to OoT (sans items), its a fantastic zelda game. the ending cuts short which is my only major criticism of it.

      • +1

100% agree with Paintoad. I loved OoT as a child and didn’t mind Wind Waker, but having recently played this, it got no where near the expectations I had for it. Excessively sparse open world (just seemed to make it big for the sake of it), terribly boring characters that were annoying more than anything else and an easy final battle and poor ending.

I think it’s still worth buying and playing, as the gameplay and story are decent, but don’t expect it to reach the heights of previous Zelda games.

Excessively sparse open world (just seemed to make it big for the sake of it)

This. I don't have time to spend 10 minutes doing nothing but running across an empty field with generic grass.

Thought things would get more interesting when the old guy turned up and I completed his quest - but no, I've got to do it three more times. Grindy!

      • Yeah I couldn't get into it. I went back and played Twilight Princess instead and loved it.

This, Smash and Mario Kart will never be uninstalled from my Switch.

    • I got burned out of this game after 70 hours and only around half way through. I stopped playing over a year ago, reckon I should start a new game?

      • yes! finish it. use guides if you get stuck.

      • 70 hours

70 hours and only half way! The industry needs to move on from the mentality that a long game is a good game. Who wants to spend 140 hours playing a video game??

        • It's a game where you can take your time and complete goals in whatever order you choose. If I hated it I would have sold it but I just had more Switch games that I was tempted to play. :)

        • I know what you mean but there's plenty of games that I've happily spent hundreds of hours on because they didn't feel like hundreds of hours. Then there's games that felt like hundreds of hours after only a few.

I just finished Old Man's Journey on Game Pass. Took less than 2 hours to complete, but it was excellent.

  • They've been this price on Amazon for a while now, smash is $68, mario kart is $67, mario odyssey is $64. These seem to be the current going rates.

    • No it has been 79 for most of this year. Last year during holiday season it came down to 50s but has been quite high this year. So if someone wants it now, this is a good price.

      • camelcamelcamel says it was 69 or under until the end of march then it went back up again. i guess i didn't check in the last month and a bit but it has been this price most of the year so far. Have a look for yourself: https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B076P6K4YT

Incredibly high quality game. Everything about it is top notch. Serious candidate for best game of all time. Must-try for any gamer of any kind.

(If you don't like it you'll have no problem selling it. Even CEX will give you $52 trade-in).

(Since this is Ozbargain, I should probably mention that if you already have a gaming PC you can get the Wii U version for around $60 second hand and play it using Cemu. This is also the best version of the game, better than both Wii U and Switch, since it supports higher resolutions than the Switch version (1080p, 4K, etc) as well as 60FPS, mods, etc).

    • +1

Yeah if you can be bothered setting it up it looks great on Cemu.

Picked up a Switch and this recently from the last Gamesmen BOTW/Mario Kart 8 deal. Great game, well worth the money, easily 80+hrs of content

    Back to $79 again… sigh

I'm a huge fan of this game. My 10 year old daughter is playing it also. Once you get into it, you're trapped! :-)

Before the Switch and this game, I was a PC-only gamer and had not liked console gaming but BotW has changed that opinion. Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks? :-)

  • +1

Or if you own a Wii U 🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is available again for $69
