I’m not far off expecting too. It’s all over whelming choosing car seats, cots and prams. So many reviews online- both good and bad.
For the car seat I went to Kid Safe NT. Just cause a car seat is approved in one state doesn’t mean it is approved in your state. I got the Britax Safe N Sound Millenia. Lasts from 0-4 years. Due to the heat in the NT it is recommended to change your car seats every four years. Lots of padding for a new born. Make sure you get a professional to install it. There should be a Kid Safe in your state. The best thing about Britax is if your in a car crash they will swap the car seat over.

    • Thanks for the feedback. My wife is having our first in October, so we are on the look out for all things baby now.

      • +1

Buy new on a few safety/personal, mainly car seat (this seat is pretty good, we regret buying a capsule as it was only used a few times before it is not big enough), and bottles/teats really.

Your mates will be keen to offload their used baby items if they still have them.

Clothes - especially for the first 6 months, they grow so fast that the clothes will likely get worn only a few times before they grow out of it.
Toys - pretty much the same as clothes. However, make sure it is wiped down with meth spirit, or well washed if it can be washed.

Pram - optional. We have bought a new one given it will be used for many years.

        • Thank you :)

      • Have a look at https://www.childcarseats.com.au/

They do the safety testing nationwide for baby car seats. We used this site to pick our Mothers Choice car seat.

        • I ended up getting the Mothers Choice Haven pram from Big W. Was on sale for $250. You can turn it around to face you and lay flat when they are little. It turns into a toddler seat when they are older. It’s light weight compare to some of the expensive prams.

        • Thanks :)

  • I have 2 of these for my twins. Bought 2 years ago and still using them. I think we bought from $450 each from a store which was closing down. Very good built quality and plenty of padding to protect your baby. As in dimensions it is little bit bulky but not too far off from others. third kid can sit in between. (not too comfortable though).

      So recommend?

      • My wife and I have one of these each in our cars and they have been great. We started off using a capsule (Joie i-Gemm) for ease of use in and out of car for the newborn, but have since switched to the Millenia. Can't fault them, ease of use and our boy also loves being in the car so I will take it he is also pretty comfortable also.

        • We did the same, went capsule for 8-9 months then went to a Graphene (needed a more compact seat than the Millenia). No regrets.

      • +1

        Yes I do.

I always recommend going to a store and testing how the seat fits in your car - width wise is important, but also legnth as when rear-facving some are mcuh longer than others meaning you need to move the front seat forward a lot. But this is a good price for the Millenia these days.

Insane, it's gone up by $100 since last year

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/439994

    • That sale hasn't been repated as far as I am aware. They were really good pricng, but nothing like it ever since. I got my Graphene for $409 and thought that was a good price til the Ebay sale!

  • +1

    I don't think it's usually at $719 price though?

    • +2

Never. These seats are always on permanent "low price" at all the baby shops. Just a matter of finding when someone has a much lower price than the rest.

  • +4

it is a normal price. A couple of month ago it was $469. Last week it was $499 but with $500 spent can receive $60 voucher.

  • +1

This or the graphene (almost the same but narrower) is what i would recommend, but as other people said this is the normal price. In saying that I've been waiting about a year for it to go on sale and it hasn't so had to cave last week and get one as baby is getting too big for the capsule.
I think your only chance of a sale may be the click frenzy next Tuesday or end of financial year sale, but don't hold your breath…

I bought it for $460 from Baby Kingdom on 25th April when there was one day online sale. Even though Baby Kingdom shows $499 in website, I have seen them to be priced $489 in store. Last weeks voucher sale in Baby Bunting was also good. Was waiting for a deal on Millenia from Jan. Baby due in a weeks time.

  • Have two of these seats. Would recommend, esp if your car has isofix anchors.

  • This is quite expensive compared to a lot of the sales in the past. The low-mid $400s should be what we are aiming for as a minimum. It is quite big though, so you want to test that it fits well for your car - and the front passenger or driver still have adequate leg room. For smaller cars, or if you are planning to have a large enough cars and planning to fit 3 seats in the back, the Graphene may be a better choice. You get a bit more space, although the crash test scores are slightly lower, and it doesn't feel as nice as the Millennia. It's available for around the same price. I've got one of each.

  • Yeah, no deal sorry. This is how much they are every day of the week at BB.

Picked ours up for $404 on their eBay store at the end of 2018.

Did a lot of research and finally decided on this seat. While it is true that it was much cheaper in the past (I think the lowest is around $395), that has not happened for the last couple of years, so had to pull the trigger since baby's outgrown the capsule. For further peace of mind, i've put the purchase on 28 degrees though, so just in case the price dips, you could still get your money back with price protection. My 2 cents

I just bought the Maxi Guard Pro+ (up to 8 years old) from Baby Bunting Bankstown for 524.25 - they manage to give me a 25% discount (otherwise would have costs $699. Apparently they will have sale this weekend.

    • Oh good. I'm currently looking at the Maxi Guard Pro, hoping for a sale soon.

    • +1

Gotta buy a seat for the in-laws car so this is good timing.

How did you get 25% off before the sale? Are car seats definitely included this weekend? Baby Bunting usually don't put their 'best price' items on sale.

      • The sale is now live, 25% off the Maxi Guard Pro+. Nothing for the Best Buys :(
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/537875

        • Yeah only for the "Plus" models. And it's 25% off RRP which they usually have anyway with "best Buys" or their regular "low price".
Disappointed as I want another Graphene but dont need the Plus model.

          • @nafe: You can get the Graphene for $445 delivered from BB if you Price beat with https://www.sweetlullabies.com.au/safensound-graphene-conver…

That's what I ended up doing with the Maxi Guard Pro

            • @JoelT: I got my first Graphene at $409…. So I'm mentally capped around that price lol. I also don't need it yet so I can hold out for a good sale or another eBay price blitz

  • +1

Can't comment on the deal, but the car seat is a winner. The Millenia is slightly larger than most of the other Britax and Maxi Cosi models, which means it might actually make it through the 0-4 age range. I picked up the Millenia+ for $525 last year from Baby Bunting. Installation was a cinch. The newborn likes the ride and is safe and ultimately that's all that really matters!

  • Bought one of these for my little one about 6 months ago. $398 via BB eBay Plus. Though eBay sales have been seriously lacking of late so maybe don’t hold your breath for a repeat.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/501014

Easy to fit both with ISOFIX and with the seatbelt. A few mates have these as well. Newborn to 2yr old and counting and still going fine.

Plenty of room fitted in a Tucson as well.

    • Last year there are so many BB ebay 15% off sell but this year there is no BB eBay sell any more.

      • One less competitor after Baby and Toddler Town went under….

        • too bad, I waited for half-year and bought with a much higher price. Last year BB eBay 15% off regularly.

          • @RichardF89: Yeah, I'm holding off, but will need a 2nd seat in the next 6months. Hopefully some sales at EOFY?

            • @nafe: A couple of weeks ago. My local BB shop has a buy xxx get xx store credit. Like buy $500 get $60 $750 get $110. $1500 get $250. Buy all the price without discount. I bought some Baby gift card with about 10% off from Woolworth and coles. But still, price not as good as last year.

        • This is really sad. Sinces Babies R Us went under, there hasn't been any decent competition for BB. This ultimately means higher prices for us, even with their (fake) sales. Another example where sale price is their normal RRP (like Kathmandu).
