In my limited experience of Bordex racking, it isn't kind to wine labels. OK for longer term storage where you don't need to pull bottles out too often to see if it is what you want for dinner. I prefer plastic-coated heavy gauge wire for my purposes.

Price? Seems a bit high for what you're getting… Pass.

    • Don't suppose you know of where to get one that can hold this many for a better price?

      • No. I've got Cellarack stuff (http://www.cellarack.com/Examples.761.0.html). Nothing as grand as some of their examples - but using their modules to put something practical together.

I suppose that what I'm trying to say is that the Bordex stuff is hard on labels and doesn't make bottles easy to get at. At the price, I'd rather keep bottles of wine in their original packaging. Hope that helps clarify.

  • Having recently purchased a wine rack from Howards Storage for a present, i can confirm that this is a great price :D
although i didn't buy this rack- because of the huge price instore, it really does look nice in person.
    +1 for this find

  • What's the point of a wine rack when corks are not used? Only useful for keeping corks moist to stop them shrinking.

    • Depends on what you're doing. If it is only about keeping corks moist, you're quite right!

If you intend to have just a couple of dozen bottles stashed in a cool place, it is no big deal to keep screw-capped bottles standing up and sort through them when you're looking for THAT bottle.

If you've got rather more (ummm… like me) and/or a fair number have cork closures - setting up racks can make sense. It allows me to organise what I've got, and quickly locate THAT bottle. I like racks that are gentle on bottles and labels. The Bordex racks don't quite fit the bill for me.

I still keep quite a lot of wine in original cartons when it isn't needed for current drinking. Thankfully, corks are becoming less common and tainted wine (through cork-related issues) is, therefore, becoming a problem of the past.
