        Critic reviews are average

I would rather believe 1000s of people who played it.
A few critic opinions are very subjective.
If I reviewed Minecraft it would get devastating reviews simply because I don't like it at all.
          Yet most people do.

@Lysander: You should track down that Nintendo fanboy I've argued with a few times.

Apparently aggregate reviews are worthless, and we should all simp for Nintendo-chan.

Mass aggregated reviews are simply the only good form of review because pros get bought, and trolls are lazy.

            • @Telios: He already tracked me down unfortunately and is trying to force his taste of games onto me.
Blocked him after several attempts to explain and request to leave me in peace were fruitless.

Still can't fathom why you put stock in steam reviews. They are thumbs up or thumbs down. Very positive means "not shit". That's all! 99 out of 100 people could think it's worth a 51% score, and it gets labelled overwhelmingly positive. Steam intentionally has a deceitful rating system to drive sales.

Look at critic and user reviews on metacritic (or similar). Look at scores from a critic you trust as well as the meta. Down or up play this score based on user reviews. Consider if you like this genre of game. Then if it passes that process, go to steam to look for the bugs. If it ain't bugged, buy it.

I would absolutely buy this even if it had poor reviews just so I could try castlevania in 3d, it's a CRAZY good deal. Actually I already own it. But I'm generalising for situations where the game in question costs more.

        • I have actually played this and it is great. So Steam reviews are right on this occasion and critic reviews are wrong.
          Simple.
I agree with you re liking genre - exactly what I said in my example re me reviewing Minecraft.
But still, if there are 20 critic reviews and 20000 on Steam who give it the thumbs up, then if I have to choose one of the two to believe, I would be more inclined to believe the 20000 and read some reviews there in depth.
But of course everyone has their own approach.

@Lysander: I'm in the same boat as Lysander. I prefer the views of the masses over the views of critics.

I have seen many times a reviewer who has not favoured a particular genre of games, give games poor scores based upon their thoughts and not really the game itself. Also review copies often do not experience the bugs or frustrations of the release or post release content.

With the masses, you'll get reviews based upon bugs, hardware specifications and people who are generally interested in that genre of game. Which more often then not will be harsher in their reviews as their not afraid to recommend other games readily available.

            • @Dswal: I didn't exclude all that stuff tho..

IF steam let you give a score out of 10, it would negate the need for meta. But since it's "good or bad?", that's where it fails

              • @justtoreply: I don't put much stock in critic reviews. I'd rather look at Steam reviews to see any problems that are highlighted in multiple reviews, check out videos etc and form my own decision.

One of best things about Steam reviews though is that they paint you a picture of how a game may have evolved over time with updates (either for good or bad). The critic reviews rarely do this.

                • @[Deactivated]: Yes, for updates you always need user reviews. Whether it be steam or elsewhere.

They probably weren't taking it being a $2 game into account.

Ignore the reviews imo. This finally bubbled up to the top of my pile of shame a few weeks ago, and despite my not liking it the first time I played it a few years ago, I realised the complaints about the stealth sections were way overblown as they're very fleating, and the game is otherwise great.

Ah hell, why not… I have the first game. Will probably want to see how the story concludes… if I ever get around to playing them.

    • The first game was actually very good compared to this one.

      • So I've heard. I originally bought the first game on PS3 which I played through 1 or 2 levels. Really enjoyed what I played back then. I'll need to find the time to load up both games on Steam now and binge it.

        • I got it when on released and got through it 15 or hours or so. It was an awesome experienced and would rate it better than God of War 3 on the PS3. Love the game play mechanics on it.

  • Legend, I've been waiting for this to go on a good sale for some time now :D

  • +3

    Yay… more games I don't need. Fml.
    Purchased.

  • Awesome, thank you!

  • Is the DLC worth buying?

    • +1

Just have a look at the reviews for each on Steam - that should give you a good idea.

    • +1

Aside from Revelations (not in the bundled), no.

  • -1

Should provide at least 15 minutes of entertainment. Can't go wrong for $2!

  • Thanks OP!

Bought. I can’t wait to see it as a freebie in 3 weeks time…

    • +4

      Not too likely but possible.
GMG had a pack with 3 Castlevania games about a year ago for $5.90 or so and ran out of keys quickly and despite that very low price then the games have not shown up as freebie yet.
But of course, these days everything is possible.

  • Played the original Castlevania Lords of Shadow on Xbox 360 years ago - really enjoyed it - very happy to get this one for only a few bucks!

  • +1

It's $1.91. If I like it then it is a bonus,if I don't at least I get to try it myself and did I say $1.91?

  • is it just me, but is the site only working unless you are using xp connected to your cable modem directly. ffs. the internet is so (profanity).

    • +2

I enjoyed the first one and for $1.91 it's worth a chance
