LG C9 65” Edge Blackening

Hello,

I recently bought an LG C9 65” and within a few days had noticed the bottom left edge was bleeding black on grey scenes. It is not noticeable on other brighter scenes. My question is: is this a normal case for this technology? My first thought was that a $3000 TV shouldn’t be like that. Would I really have a case for refund or replace or am I just nitpicking? https://m.imgur.com/gallery/m3amPZp

Thank you

  • Do you see it if you switch it to another colour? How does the rest of the screen look (take a pic)? How dark is that grey? What setting do you have the OLED light and Brightness set to?

    • The other colours appear ok, this is only noticeable in dark scenes. The rest of the screen looks ok, can take another pic tonight. The grey is what I would call a dark grey. The oled light and brightness are just as per the modes, we normally have it set to technicolor but I think this would have been game mode. No matter what settings so far, this is noticeable and will likely continue to be.

      • I was thinking it could be burn in but it is a weird place to burn in.

Does sunlight hit that spot of the TV at any part of the day by any chance?

Yeh, let's see the rest of the screen as a whole.

        • There is minimal sunlight on that area, only really some morning sun if the blinds are up. I noticed it early, I would say out the box but thought this oled and uniformity is an issue as per research on the net. Grey pic to come soon.

yeah, that's crap. Give it back for full refund as it will be getting worse with time and then warranty will expire, after which it will be too late! Others have complained too: https://www.avforums.com/threads/lg-oled-c9-side-brightness-…

    • Thanks for the link, appears I have that but not as pronounced

  • I have one, and mine is definitely not that. The screen provides consistent results and does not have any kind of blemishes or gradients.
Have a think about how you installed it and whether any pressure has been applied to the super thin part of the panel. I have seen reports on forums regarding how easily it can break if not handled correctly.

Irrespective of how it has happened, I’d be seeking a replacement ASAP. It should not be doing that.

    • Thanks for the comment. Yes we took extra special care noting the handling instructions and followed them to the letter. It is interesting because this region of the tv does not have pressure applied to during the standard mounting procedure (including the lie down to install the brackets).

  • Harvey Norman has asked that I call LG Care. On hold now…

  • They said technical have gone home, call tomorrow please.

  • Just take it back to Harvey Norman, hopefully they have a replacement in stock. If not try and angle for a CX 65”. Don’t settle for a B9.

They’re not having a bar of it, that’s the issue. Keep pushing it back to the manufacturer. I have to play the consumer right card now, it’s like they won’t let you past without some theatre.

After arguing in store with HN that the problem should exist only between me and HN, the manager asked that I wait another day until it was cleared with the LG rep. I conceded and the next day was told it had been cleared and had some options for a refund or a good deal on another TV. I took the refund. On the same day I got the refund I received a call from the LG service centre saying they had received the part to do the repair, I explained I had already arranged the refund. I should have asked what the part was out of interest, I am wondering if it was a new TV in a box or they had actually sent a screen.
