Error Message after Installing Old Version of Quicken on My PC

I have installed old version of Quicken on a spare laptop (as mine is currently broken). No problem doing the installation but when trying to use it have to activate it first. I input my Quicken Installation key and it attempts to contact Reckon to verify / activate but then fails with unexpected error. Error code = 7083.

Reckon won't help me troubleshoot because it is old version (Quicken 2009) and directed me to Reckon community (community.reckon.com) but no reports of this error message there.

I'm pretty sure I used to have this happen to me too and had to get my account reset a few times before I gave up. It's so old now that they won't talk to you. I was trying to use it in a virtual machine on my Mac.

Is something blocking it from connecting to the internet on your computer?

    • Yes I wondered that so switched off my anti-virus and tried. I got the same error message but it took much longer to appear.

On the real old versions of Quicken (before yours)they stored the registration details in the quicken.ini file located in the Windows directory.
Not sure if that is still the case.
You could check to see if it is and possibly copy the file from a working version directory

    • Yes I remember that too now. I had Quicken in the 90s that I think did that. Not sure it applies to 2009 - having trouble finding the file. Unfortunately even if I find it i don't have a working version to copy from.
