Free - Virtual Tour of The Tower of London

1480

Available on Facebook and Instagram.

Note that a visitor ticket is usually required for the tour.

Yeoman Warder Scott Kelly is your guide for this virtual tour of our iconic fortress.

As you can see the Tower is very quiet at the moment, and we’re missing our visitors. While we’re unable to sell the visitor tickets which would normally fund our work caring for this 1,000-year-old site, your continued support for Historic Royal Palaces as an independent charity is more important than ever.

I did this tour irl, one of the highlights of the trip to the UK!

Yup, I agree with you. The armour was, particularly, impressive. You could feel the weight of history there.

very much so, so much history, so little time! A day wasn't probably long enough at the tower, let a lone the other sites in the UK

Tower of London seemed particularly sad when you compare it to Paris's Musée de l'Armée. That place is freaking insane.

        • +1

It also doesn't have the Crown Jewels or a gorgeous castle..

If you want more arms and armor the Wallace Collection has some incredible stuff and is completely free!

I remember queuing for hours… much faster this time around.
    Shame tour doesn't go indoors.

  • When I visited, I haggled the price down at the ticket office at the entrance. A good reminder of an interesting tour.

    • The 2020 entrance price is $58

When visited in person, there were cheaper tickets for different categories of visitor. Asked them to sell me one of those even though they knew I didn't qualify for it. They didn't mind. Worth asking to save money!

Strange Ozbargainers are against getting a cheaper price just for asking!

      • I'd bet most of the people working there are international students etc and are happy to give you a bit of a discount

        • No, he was VERY English, like all I saw there.

He was bored dealing with all the usual tourists, liked that I had the cheek to ask for a discount ticket even though I obviously didn't qualify, so gave it. Joked I was another cheap Aussie. We had a good laugh.

Some entry tickets are available to locals for just £1 instead of £28.90 by presenting a valid library card & free for members!

Always worth a try, to save money on travels.

        • You lost the bet burrto. Fabulous place to visit if you enjoy English history and pomp. The London Pass is the way to go. Fast track entry to many attractions is a bonus. The Old Operating Theatre Museum was a hidden gem, highly recommended. So many highlights it's hard to pick between them. Secrets of The Tower was recently on SBS - probably still available on SBS On Demand.

I did the 'Ceremony of the Keys' back in 2005 which was pretty damn awesome. A tradition that's been going on for hundreds of years.

Note that a visitor ticket(hrp.org.uk) is usually required for the tour.

A visitor ticket is usually required for a real life tour.

How in God's name can a virtual tour ever be compared to a real life tour?

Virtual reality is NOT real life. It can never compare to real life.

    • +1

They aren't comparing it to real life. They are simply stating what normally occurs. Being in person is usually required for the tour as well.

  • I was supposed to be there next week - guess this will have to do for now

  • This was great!
    Thanks OP

  • Thanks op, but there’s a typo @12:45

that was formed here in 1695

just watched it, and enjoyed it immensely, tyvm

Boris Johnson make a better tour guide than PM

    • The existing tour guides are fantastic (been once + seen a couple on YouTube) so he'd have some stiff competition. Thankfully, he doesn't qualify (not that that's stopped him in life so far).

  • +1

I lost my head over this.

      Traitor😀

      • +1

I wonder how many so-called traitors were actually guilty of "high" treason.

        • You can't ask that! Off with his head!

    My favourite site in London!

    • Plenty of them though eh Lainey? Great city, great country to visit

      • Yeah. Lived there for almost 2 years and still didn't see or do everything. As they say, when a man is sick of London he is sick of life.. Or something along those lines anyway ;)

I couldn't find any bridge stabbings. Disappointing.
