MacBook Pro 2011 - Faulty USB Ports Any Work around?

Bought a cheap used one and unfortunately, the USB ports are broken/dead. I have turned verbose boot on and it says overload to usb 2.0. Louis rossman also recommends replacing the terminal chokes. I was wondering if there was any work around for using: usb storage and devices. Firewire and thunderbolt 2 are available as options. Hopefully someone has a creative way to use usb? I know about thunderbolt 2 hubs but they are like $200… lol

  • The work around would be not using any usb devices. Is Bluetooth an option for peripherals?

    • Well… it's not $200…

  • +1

May just be usb power is dead but usb bus is still running. Try using a powered usb hub.

  • thanks for the suggestions, knew I was missing something…

    • Good luck. The $76 adapter above might be the go.

  • USB port is damaged. replace it

    • ok… all previous thing videos I found point to usb overload (power/board) or replacing the terminal chokes.

  • Wht u need usb ports for? You’d have an SD slot too yeah?

    • yep, trackpad is slightly dodgy, so a usb mouse would be good. Plus if I can fix it easily, then why not.
