How Accurate Is The Power Consumption Reported on Xiaomi Smart Plugs ?

I have a Xiaomi Mi Smart Socket (ZigBee Edition)(https://www.geekbuying.com/item/product-364995/) + the home kit.
Is the reporting of power consumed fairly accurate on this ?
I am asking as I plugged in a 2000 W convector heater (delonghi) for an hour and this plug reported 3.5 kWh used - I would have thought it'd be 2kWH - or at least around that.
*Can't edit the title - clearly I meant Xiaomi :)

Is it set to 110v or 120v?
I haven't got one, but other meters made for international markets can be set to different voltages.

If that were accurate it would mean the heater is drawing 15A in which case the smart plug would be toast

    • Your math is a bit off. 2000W/240V = 8.3A. You usually don't have 15A rated powerpoints in the house unless it's for an oven.

      • What I mean is if it did use 3.5 kWh in one hour, that would imply a 3500W device, which would be roughly 15A which would be very unlikely.

        • Yeah I didn't read the whole thing before I replied my bad.

  • this is very interesting. I have a few of these and found they're quite accurate when I cross check with other device, but that's only when measuring low draw devices like computer and fridges.
But I'm very surprised you managed to run it with the heater just fine because all the xiaomi plugs I had ran into issue once I used them to measure high draw device (dishwasher, washer). As soon as the appliance turned on the heating element to heat water the plug switch itself off with red led on, I assume it was because they were rated for 10A at 220v so 2400w power would trip it internal switch. They ran just fine afterward tho. Xiaomi do sell the 15A plug for airconditioner tho.
