Looks to be a very capable under $1000 laptop with that sweet sweet Ryzen 4000 series (Zen 2) Unfortunately no touchscreen like the American variant :(
From a few video reviews the build quality looks much better than similar laptops from other companies plus it includes a 2 year warranty.
Only negative seems to be the soldered RAM hopefully like some other models theirs a regular slot that can be used to upgrade to dual channel. Edit: Not user upgradable :(

      I don't believe so.

For those who just want a peek without logging in

    • Link opens normal store with the price being $1199

Yeah it's just so people can see the specs.

Metal top panel and new pain that gives the surface a soft touch

      kinky.

Make sure you read the reviews on battery life and balance that with your needs. I bought a Ryzen powered laptop earlier this year, but it had horrible battery life (4 hours). For the price/specs ratio, it was definitely a more capable machine than the Intel counterpart though.

Was it from this generation of CPU though? It seems like they've improve efficiency a lot.

      • last gen, hence why I say to check reviews as I am only speaking from experience, and am not as informed as the reviewers.

    • +6

Yeah this is the proper Zen2 AMD which uses less power for more performance compared to 10th gen Intel.

    • I think you are referring to one that is one or two generations old. The 4500u only came out in the last two or three months. It's based on 7nm vs 12/14nm of the older generations. I know from a recent Acer review with this CPU they were getting about 10 or 11hrs usage at 150 nits brightness. Seems to smoke the 10th gen Intel CPUs of a similar spec.

is it possible to upgrade this to the better specced CPU variant? would love to see if i could get more ram or a better cpu

    • +2

$200 for the 4700u as an upgrafe. I'll see if I can find the higher spec model.

    • +1

Looks to be soldered single channel RAM.

  • Will University alumni emails work on most education stores

    • Yeah I'd say so. As long as they have the .edu :)

  • +4

be good if they released a ryzen version of the 14" model! even in slim form 15.6 is too big to be a truly portable laptop i think.

    • +3

Do I have news for you :)

Doesn't look like they have any stock ATM.

      • Spoke to online chat and said they had no info on incoming stock timing or pricing :(

        • +1

          It's in stock now.

I want the Ideapad/Yoga Slim 7, hope that comes here.
It gets the 4800U, 4266MHz LPDDRX, a touch screen and better build quality, sounds perfect

        • Same here.
          I'm craving for the Ideapad/Yoga Slim 7 in 14" with a ryzen 4000

    • One exists on their website, not in stock yet though.

    • Now in stock.

  • Wonder if this would stack with the Amex Lenovo cashback? Provided I buy more things to get to $1500 minimum
