  • Good found. Bought one a couple years ago. The blade is not as good as Learthman's. I love the pliers and screwdrivers.

      defintely a good found

You should just stop visiting OzBargain because I can guarantee you that over 80 percent of all the deals here are products made in China. Just go make your own products in your backyard so you don't "fund" the CCP.

          Que?

You could buy a whole new toolbox for $75!

You want to keep funding the CCP?

  • Finally another multitool maker is doing a bit driver. Leatherman were doing bit drivers for ages, but a lot of their newer top line tools don't have the bit driver anymore. For me, the tool needs a blade, pliers, file, and a bit driver (or two) - everything else is just wasting space.

    • Gerber had a multitool with a bit driver since the mid 90's, (not integrated like this though).

The original multitool with a one handed slide out action has an optional adaptor, 6 bits, and came with pouch that stored everything.

Still got mine, the handles of the pliers are lethal for trapping the skin on the palm of your hand.

The next model lost the one handed action and the ability to use bits.

  • I have the more basic model and quite like it. Operationally its great, build quality is great, there is some minor minor tolerance differences so the tool doesn't snap perfectly straight. really not important. And blade seems to have blunted quite early and it hasn't had a hard life.

A good alternative to the leatherman

  • +5

Its only available for click and collect. But no stores near me seem to have any in stock…

    • might still be able to price match at bunnings? Worth a try

  • -5

Sold out everywhere near me. Bullshit loss leader sale.

    • +2

Note the big red "CLEARANCE" label at the top of the product page. That means they're clearing out whatever leftover stock they have, which in turn means there won't be much stock around. It is not a "bullshit loss leader sale".

      • -4

Sure buddy. Sounds like the local rug shop that's been on clearance sale for 30 years.

        • Believe whatever you want. :)

  • Goddamn it, I just opened up my $20 credit purchase last night. Could of returned for this!

    • $67.50 at bunnings for price beat guarantee. Title updated

  • Thankfully no stock around name and not available for delivering…

  • Serious question - where are people using tools like this? Is it mainly campers, fishers, etc or are you using it generally around the house? I have something similar but never really find a use for it

    • +1

Yes, camping etc. Also EDC ("Every Day Carry") enthusiasts.

I might also add, that due to Australian laws concerning carrying pocket knives in public (which vary from State to State), here in Queensland it is much easier to have a 'reasonable excuse' for carrying one of these everyday since it has so many different functions.

      • THanks. There are certainly some interesting hobbies out there i wasn't aware of

      • Why is everyone carrying knives everyday?
Must be wonderful to live in America.

Corkscrew. Never know when you need a corkscrew

          • @Spending2Much: Not used a corkscrew in years. Australia's move to screw top years ago was a smart one.

        • Opening boxes, working on my bike, working on my computer, randomly fixing things around the house.

I don't carry mine in my pocket, but it lives in the backpack that I take most places.

    • +1
      • nail piller.

For when they've refused an offer that's too good to refuse.

    • travelling and around the house for me.

have had a SOG powerlock (one of the earliest editions) with me for about 17 years. it comes with me whenever i travel, since i'm obviously not going to bring my toolbox with me.

at home, it sits next to my laptop and i use it for opening parcels, those awful clamshell packaging certain things come in, snapping cable ties, filing a rough fingernail and whenever i need scissors (it's still so sharp after that many years)

sometimes take it with me on longer drives in the car.

  • What material is it? Platium?

    • +1

Not sure but according to Gerber's website it has a Limited lifetime warranty, so I am assuming it's good quality like most Gerber products.

      • I bought a similar item from SCA and cost $10… I wonder the differences.

        • +5

          $65.

        • +3

lol SCA multitools. i've bought those too (i mean, wasted loyalty credit on it) because it was soooo cheap. then you start to use it and you realise why. cheap tools are frustrating and can be dangerous to use.

          • @tdw: The same can be said to most things…

  • I wanna buy it. But, it doesn't have scissors…..

  • +3

Still have my leatherman wave (1 replacement 3 years ago under lifetime warranty) from 1999! Can't fault it for all it's shortcomings.

Have a Gerber Dime (their cheap keyring sized one) from 3 years ago, and it's not lasted/built anything like a leatherman. Maybe their high end stuff uses better metal? By comparison, bought the Mrs a leatherman keychain sized one for emergencies and that's still in great shape and has had a bit of use.

    • Used to have a Leatherman Micra, which I lost on a bus in Peru, which was great, fits in your coin pocket.

Replaced it with a Gerber Shortcut, the knife blade spring broke after a couple of years.

So ended up buying another second-hand Micra on eBay about 8 years ago, still going strong.

    • i bought a Dime as well for the "package opener." it was disappointing and now gathers dust on the corner of my desk. i've never really been impressed by Gerber's knives or multitools

  • Lifetime warranty in North America only?
    https://www.gerbergear.com/en-us/support/warranty

    • Outside north America it states 25 years warranty. That takes you into 2045. That's good enough for me ;)

  • +1

    High yield beer/wine opener. Sorted.

    • The Swiss army knife …that comes with a corkscrew. All the essentials in one complete package

  • Made in China. No thanks.

    Leatherman made in the US.

    • 5 the 30 total parts that typically make up their multitool are sourced internationally, according to the filings from a 2006 lawsuit that was brought against them, accusing Leatherman of false advertising “made in the USA” messaging. These parts include:

      Files – Europe
      Corkscrews – Europe
      Plier jaws – Mexico
Two small fastening components – Unknown

      • +4

Fair enough but at least it's not 100% made in China like Gerber.

It's very difficult to not buy Chinese-made but I'm giving it a red hot crack - despite the higher costs. For instance, I bought a garden tool at Bunnings on the weekend. I could have bought the $20 Chinese-made one but I opted for the $50 one made in Australia.

        • +2

Well done. We should all be more like that…

        • So mine says made in usa?

    • What? How do you know?

    • Why do you want to buy from the US when our trade deficit with them is $27 billion. Support Australian companies and buy Australian.

      • +1

What Australian-made Australia-owned multitools are there?

        • -1

I don't care just don't buy Made in US and increase our deficit.

  • Tried to order one from Taren point BCF, said in stock, order successful, then they called me to say no stock, apparently they will ship one from another store, but I expect they will all be out of stock and unable to obtain one.

Anyone had any luck at bunnings?

Is there a way to check stock online at bunnings?

    • +2

      Here you go.
      The I/N is 6100483.
It may or may not be 100% accurate, so set your expectations accordingly. :)

      (thanks to plague69)

      • Brilliant. Top addition to the forum.

      • ohhh, absolute champion, thank you!

  • I bought a Gerber Dime for travel years ago and its come in handy so many times as an EDC - or even at home to open packages.

  • Great price. I’m happy with my Skeletool with the bit kit but the Centredrive would still make an excellent edc.

  • just got a price match at Bunnings. pouch even has additional space for more driver bits

    • Can the pouch be added on to a belt somehow?

      • +1

yep, three belt loops. one vertical, two horizontal

  • Bunnings price beat for me Preston vic

  • Bunnings did not in mid north coast NSW, they said is clearance item :/

    • Refer them to their price beat policy!!

      • Don't forget this excludes trade quotes, stock liquidations and commercial quantities.

Guess they claimed it was a stock liquidation. Never had any luck with the 10% price promise, its complete bullshit IMHO

  • +1

Just got a price beat at bunnings alexandria. Last one.

I ordered today via bcf taren point, out of stock but they told me they will get one from another store and deliver to me for free. If anyone wants to buy it for cost price $75 and pick up, I’m near Newtown Nsw Sydney.

I’ll cancel tmr morn if no one local is trying to get ahold of one.

    • edit: just cancelled my order.

  • So i just picked up one at bunnings, they were a bit hesitant as it was 'clearance' but i got one. Is this supposed to come with bits?

Just my two cents, the quality of this is quite good although in my opinion a leatherman is far ahead in quality and feel. I feel like this was made with looks in mind. It's also a bit wierd that it doesnt close like most multitools.

  • +1

Got mine from Bunnings. The trick with the "clearance" is to scroll the screen down enough that it doesn't show the "clearance" word but enough to show the CBF and the brand and model of the item.

    • Iv picked up 13 in the last two days vic bunnings putting bunnings price beat to the test no issues at all so far

      • What are you using them all for?

  • All my mates are buying them of me that’s y I was getting so many

  • -1

Refused price match at Bunnings Nerang.
