I bought this kettle 2 months ago and its been great. I like to heat the water to 80C which makes it quicker, quieter and use less power. I don't need it to be 100C, I can drink my coffee sooner.

    • How much quicker is it?

    • You brew your coffee at 80c? By what method?

      • This kettle has some programmed temperatures: 70, 80, 90, 95, 100°C

Unless your question was about actual brew method like drip etc, if that's the case, sorry!

        • Aha, yeah…I meant brew method! :)

      • Oh when I make an instant coffee I use 80C - instant is already brewed, you just want it warm enough to dissolve and get it to drinking temp. If I'm doing pour-over (real coffee) I get it to 90C. I have tried 80C also, and get much the same results. I don't think you really want it at boiling temp for real coffee, or even tea. I tested the water temp with this kettle and it does get it very close. It cuts off at 80 and the temp goes up a couple of degrees (hot plate still hot). Then it holds it quite well even without the 'keep warm' feature.

I use cream in my coffee, and if the water is too hot, then the fat comes right out of the cream and I just get an oil slick on the top of my drink.

        • Ah right - I think I misread your username as Caffeination Tech (as in, you're a fan of coffee paraphernalia) rather than Caffeinated Tech (a tech that needs caffeine)! :)

Yeah real coffee is usually brewed 90-95 degrees (or thereabouts - can be more or less for different methods and different beans). But if you're drinking instant, then you're right - 80ish probably makes sense!

        • Black tea usually requires boiling water temperature; green tea is around 85 degrees

          • @kerfuffle: yeah that's basically what the buttons on the kettle say. I'm not into tea enough to buy it loose. I find if I boil the water, then the tea bag fizzes a bit. I want to taste the tea, not the bag. I suppose I'm convincing myself to stop buying tea bags :)

Is this a reputable brand for a kettle?

Also, are kettles mostly around 1.7L?

    • Yes, it is. In the early 90s, Russell Hobbs kettles were the fastest to boil water(approximately 2 minutes). They were made in England too. Nowadays, almost everything are made in China.

      • +4

        Yeah otherwise it'd be $200

      • +1

And in the 00's Nokia were the king of mobile phones, just saying :-) But yes, this is a great kettle!

      • -2

i thought things made in england where terrible quality! xD

        • +2

Yeh Rolls Royce stuff is appaling ><

    • Yes. I bought the Russell Hobbs Brooklyn kettle recently based on Choice and other internet research.
I love it - so quick and quiet in boiling water compared to my old kettle and it was reasonably priced too.

    • Most kettles are 1.7L as standard. Some are smaller (I have a one litre one) but haven’t seen an electric one (that’s not an urn) with a higher capacity than 1.7L

  • Coupon code not working , maybe due to being a prime member. Still a great buy !

  • Not an eligible item for the APPONLY10 code unfortunately

How much is the rrp for the particular model? Thankyou!

$62 pick up @ countdown deals springvale, footscray vic, or just use that to price match at TGG etc..

your link is not working, mate.

      • +1

works fine when I click it?

        try here

        • Nah, the link works, but TGG etc. probs won't pricematch them.

          • @TogTogTogTog: is there a reason?

            • @theUnderdog: As far as I can see… there is no shipping option, only pickup from those two stores and TGG/OW/Bunnings won't pricematch unless the store can actually deliver the product at that price (or including shipping).

          • @TogTogTogTog: just realised the price is $60 without the app only code at amazon

        • -1

          nah, still doesnt work.

          • @dts88: Try a different browser. I just clicked it and it loaded just fine.

    • Not sure if your sarcasm font is turned on or not but Yes, it can be returned.

      • I ask as I dont generally buy from amazon. I know I am missing out but dont have money to spend hence look out for deals on Ozbargain

    • +1

  • I got the Russell Hobbs 1.7L York Kettle yesterday. Currently $42 on Amazon and catch.com.au

What's strange is that in the 'best sellers' page on Amazon, the York kettle was 1st yesterday morning but yesterday afternoon it was second and this Addison kettle was/is now first.

Great kettle! Power cord is short, real short.

    • +1

Second that it's a really great kettle!

  • Kettles with different temp settings are normally expensive, $60 was a great price.

Any recommendations? I need to find one.

    • +1

There's one at Kmart (with temp. settings) however it's a generic brand so I'm not sure what that says for the quality.
